GPI is currently seeking highly qualified Bridge Coatings and Coatings Inspectors to join their team for various projects in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and other Midwestern states. This role primarily involves inspecting bridge coatings to ensure compliance with specifications and codes, with work anticipated to start in the spring and summer of 2026. Experience working on transportation department or municipal projects is highly preferred. Candidates with experience in metalizing or shop inspections will also find this background advantageous. Additionally, experience with reviewing contractor submittals, procedures, and hazardous waste plans is considered a plus.
The Bridge Coatings Inspector will be responsible for overseeing the quality of work performed on bridge coatings, ensuring that all activities meet established standards. This involves monitoring waste materials and traffic control, preparing daily and weekly reports related to inspections, and traveling to multiple job sites as needed. Some assignments may require night shifts, which requires flexibility from candidates. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while representing GPI’s standards on-site.
Applicants must hold AMPP Coatings Inspector certification, specifically a minimum of Level CIP 1, Basic Coatings Inspector, and have at least one year of experience inspecting bridge coating projects. Additional preferred certifications include SSPC Bridge Coating Inspector (BCI), SSPC C3 Supervisor, and Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures. Candidates must be comfortable working in various physical conditions, including standing for extended periods, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, and working at heights. Personal protective equipment (PPE) use is mandatory while on-site, including hard hats, safety vests, work boots, and safety glasses or goggles.

Job Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails, and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
- Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
- Able to traverse a construction job site with uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material
- Able to climb and leave a ladder to platforms varying from 6 to 20 feet
- Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus and work at heights of 6 feet or higher
- Able to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and safety glasses or goggles
- Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
- Able to work in confined spaces as per OSHA Construction Standards 29CFR 1926
- Able to wear and work utilizing a respirator or SCBA breathing apparatus
Job Qualifications
- AMPP Coatings Inspector certification with minimum Level CIP 1 Basic Coatings Inspector
- At least 1 year of experience inspecting bridge coating projects
- Additional certifications such as SSPC Bridge Coating Inspector (BCI), SSPC C3 Supervisor, Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures preferred
Job Duties
- Inspecting, accepting, and/or rejecting work performed based on specifications or applicable codes
- Monitoring waste materials and traffic control as specified
- Preparing daily and weekly inspection reports on conditions, progress, weather, and acceptability of work
- Producing other reports as required by clients
- Traveling to multiple job sites if needed
- Working night shifts as assigned
