The Host role at NW Hospitality Group is a key position responsible for delivering an inviting and professional first impression to guests as they enter the restaurant. This role involves managing reservations, waitlists, and phone communications to ensure smooth operations and high guest satisfaction. As the face of the establishment, the Host must embody exceptional grooming standards and a courteous demeanor. Responsibilities include maintaining the ambiance of the dining area by attending to lighting, music, and decor, as well as managing take-out and online orders efficiently.

The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the menu and be able to provide guests with detailed information about offerings including daily specials and drinks. The Host will also be required to coordinate seating and service flow in collaboration with servers and management, acting as a vital communication link within the team. This position involves standing for extended periods and interacting with guests in multiple languages as needed, emphasizing clear and effective communication skills. Job Requirements

  • Must have exceptional grooming habits
  • be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time up to 8 hours
  • be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the predominant language(s) of our guests
  • no previous restaurant experience required
  • be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • have basic knowledge of POS systems
  • ability to handle guest inquiries politely and professionally

Job Duties

  • Maintain utmost grooming and wardrobe presentation as the first impression establishing the standard for the front of house
  • maintain a clean and ambient restaurant with specific attention to lighting, music, curtains/shades, flowers and candles
  • walk through dining room prior to service, ensuring the mise en place is completed
  • warmly and confidently greet guests as they enter, giving full attention
  • open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant when possible
  • answer phones using proper etiquette and maintain a calm and positive demeanor
  • answer questions about the restaurant and provide directions, always finding answers for guests
  • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of menu including daily specials
  • take to-go orders from ringing them in the POS system to packing and labeling
  • manage online orders carefully, checking each before accepting
  • remember and learn names of return guests and track guest information in reservation software
  • assess flow of service and time tables accordingly
  • manage waitlist and quote approximate wait times accurately
  • upon seating, offer guests menu and water and inform them of server's name
  • relay messages to servers and bus persons as needed, serving as communication hub
  • ensure all tables receive prompt and accurate service, alerting management when needed
  • occasionally assist servers with orders, food delivery, and clearing tables
  • thank guests with genuine appreciation as they leave and invite them to return
  • gauge guest satisfaction and relay comments to management
  • attend, stock, and straighten restroom facilities throughout shift
  • complete any other tasks or directives issued by manager timely and accurately
