The position open is for a Breakfast Cook within the Market Grille department at Hy-Vee. The Market Grille is a dynamic segment of the store, offering freshly prepared meals including breakfast options that appeal to a broad clientele. This role is essential in maintaining the high standards of food quality, customer service, and operational efficiency that Hy-Vee customers expect. As a Breakfast Cook, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of hot and cold breakfast dishes, including heat-and-eat selections tailored to meet the busy schedules of customers. The role requires proficiency in prepping ingredients, assembling menu items according to established recipes, and ensuring that food safety and sanitation guidelines are strictly followed.

In this role, you will interact directly with customers, providing prompt, friendly, and efficient service. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • Ability to do simple addition and subtraction, copying figures, counting and recording
  • Ability to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and request supplies orally or in writing
  • Physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects
  • Visual acuity including depth perception, color vision and field of vision
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Availability to work in fast-paced environment with exposure to cool and warm temperatures, noise and vibrations, cleaning chemicals, and possible equipment hazards
  • Commitment to punctuality and adherence to company policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience in food preparation preferred but not required
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Basic math skills including simple addition and subtraction
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Good physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Positive attitude and professionalism

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of customer suggestions or requests, and enhancing the shopping experience
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • Prepares cooking surfaces, vegetables, sides, meats and breakfast foods
  • Places food in hot cases, monitors amounts and refills as necessary
  • Prepares items for upcoming shifts and ensures understanding of all aspects of the kitchen
  • Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is always clean and neat
  • Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time
  • Knowledgeable of all menu items and able to take guest orders
  • Provides direct customer service when necessary
  • Orders product and supplies when needed or notifies department head
  • Assists in other store areas as needed
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required
