The Market Grille department at Hy-Vee is a vibrant and dynamic part of the store, offering a range of freshly prepared meals including breakfast options that are both delicious and convenient. The Breakfast Cook position in the Market Grille plays a crucial role in delivering timely, high-quality food to customers, ensuring that every meal meets Hy-Vee’s strict standards for taste, presentation, and food safety. This role involves preparing various breakfast foods, managing hot and cold food stations, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. As a non-exempt position, the Breakfast Cook typically reports to various management personnel including the Market Grille Department Manager and Store leadership teams.

The Breakfast Cook is responsible not only for cooking but also for creating a warm and welcoming environment through friendly and efficient customer service. This includes greeting customers with a smile, assisting with menu selections, and making accommodations as needed. The position requires a flexible and customer-centered mindset, along with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Adherence to all sanitation and safety guidelines is essential, as is a commitment to teamwork and professionalism. Hy-Vee offers an hourly wage ranging from $14.00 to $17.50 depending on experience and comprehensive benefits to support and reward its employees. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months or less of related work experience
  • ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • ability to see with or without correction from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, including depth perception and color vision
  • ability to follow sanitation and safety guidelines
  • punctuality and reliability
  • successful completion of pre-employment drug screen

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months or less of similar or related work experience
  • ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • basic math skills including addition and subtraction
  • ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
  • ability to write identifying information and request supplies verbally or in writing

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service
  • smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner
  • makes an effort to learn customers' names and address them by name
  • assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out of reach items, loading and unloading heavy items, noting customer suggestions, performing tasks to enhance shopping experience
  • answers the telephone promptly with friendly service
  • works as a team to ensure customer satisfaction
  • prepares cooking surfaces
  • prepares vegetables, sides, meats and breakfast foods
  • places food in hot cases, monitors amounts and refills as necessary
  • prepares items for upcoming shifts
  • ensures understanding of all aspects of the kitchen
  • practices proper sanitation procedures and maintains cleanliness
  • adheres to company hygiene and dress guidelines
  • follows company policies and store guidelines
  • reports to work when scheduled and on time
  • knowledgeable of all menu items and able to take guest orders
