The Breakfast Cook position sits within the Market Grille department and plays a critical role in delivering the delicious and timely breakfast options that Hy-Vee customers have come to expect. This is a non-exempt role primarily focused on preparing a variety of breakfast foods and hot and cold dishes, including heat-and-eat varieties. The Breakfast Cook is tasked with longstanding responsibilities such as prepping ingredients, cooking, assembling dishes accurately according to specified recipes, and maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen area.
The role requires a friendly, customer-focused demeanor that translates into engaging with patrons by smiling, greeting, and addressing them by name wherever possible. The Breakfast Cook contributes significantly to ensuring a pleasant dining experience by preparing food efficiently and safely, adhering to all hygiene and sanitation guidelines. The job is fast-paced and requires the ability to work well as part of a team alongside other store managers, kitchen staff, and customer service associates.
Additionally, this role requires physical stamina for tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and the ability to perform various physical activities, including standing, reaching, balancing, and repetitive motions throughout the work shift. Workers in this position are frequently exposed to a range of temperatures, noises from equipment, and the use of various kitchen tools, including grills, ovens, toasters, coffee machines, and slicers. Pre-employment drug screening is required for all potential employees.

Job Requirements
- Must be 18+
- high school or equivalent experience
- six months or less of similar or related work experience
- ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- willing to work in fast-paced, cool and warm environments
- able to handle exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment hazards
Job Qualifications
- High school or equivalent experience
- six months or less of similar or related work experience
- ability to solve practical problems
- ability to do simple addition and subtraction
- ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
- ability to write identifying information and request supplies orally or in writing
Job Duties
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service
- smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner

- assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out of reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, passing along suggestions
- answers the telephone promptly
- works with co-workers as a team

- practices proper sanitation procedures
- adheres to hygiene and dress guidelines

- knowledgeable of menu items and able to take orders
