Job Description

The Salvation Army in Hanford is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community through a variety of essential programs. One of their key initiatives is the breakfast program, which provides free, nutritious meals to individuals in need. This program is designed to offer support and nourishment to vulnerable populations, including those facing financial hardships, homelessness, or other challenging circumstances. The Salvation Army has a long history of community service with a mission rooted in compassion and practical help, emphasizing both physical and spiritual assistance. They operate with the commitment to uplift individuals by providing vital resources, fostering dignity, and promoting hope.

The breakfast program at the Hanford location is open to anyone requiring a meal, and it plays a crucial role in the community by ensuring that no one has to go hungry. To support this vital service, The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Breakfast Aide. This role is essential in preparing the dining hall each day for the breakfast service, assisting with food preparation and meal serving, and managing cleanup operations following the meal. The Breakfast Aide will be a key team member contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the breakfast program. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys working with the public, has strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrates a high level of reliability and integrity.

This position requires the individual to be at least 15 years old and have the proper food handling certification, either by completing and passing Food Handler Certification or possessing a current ServSafe certification. The Breakfast Aide should be comfortable standing for extended periods and capable of lifting light loads up to 25 pounds. Essential duties include setting up the dining hall, assisting in meal preparation and service, clearing tables, operating dishwashing equipment, sweeping, mopping, and resetting the dining area to be ready for the following day. While some experience working with the public is preferred, this position is also ideal for individuals new to volunteer or part-time work who wish to contribute to their community in a meaningful way.

Working at The Salvation Army in Hanford offers an opportunity to be part of a compassionate outreach that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives. Along with helping alleviate hunger, the role provides a chance to develop communication and teamwork skills in a supportive environment. The organization values diversity, equal opportunity, and compliance with federal employment laws. While this is an at-will position, it is important that the individual’s conduct aligns with The Salvation Army’s religious mission and values. Overall, the Breakfast Aide role is a rewarding position that combines community service with practical responsibilities, ideal for those who want to give back and be part of a positive change.
