The role of Branch Banking Management Military Apprentice (SAFE) within Wells Fargo's National Branch Network, part of the Consumer Banking and Lending division, is a crucial position designed to foster leadership development among individuals with military backgrounds. The apprenticeship program is a structured pathway combining on-the-job training, coursework, and mentorship, aimed at equipping participants with the skills and experience necessary to excel as Associate Branch Managers. As a Branch Banking Management Military Apprentice, you will lead and develop a diverse team, fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, and high performance. Your leadership will focus on driving an enhanced customer experience through a defined customer engagement process while maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities include managing branch resources, executing policies in compliance with regulations, and ensuring audit and escalation procedures are properly followed. This position also involves direct customer interaction, assisting with transactions as needed, and serving as a role model in delivering exceptional service. The apprentice program is accredited by the U.S. Department of Labor and designed to prepare participants for post-apprenticeship roles by developing proficiency in business operations, risk management, compliance controls, and customer relationship management. This role requires adherence to the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 due to its involvement in mortgage-related processes, including offering, negotiating terms, or taking applications for dwelling secured transactions. Ongoing employment is contingent upon compliance with all related regulatory and background investigation requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Enrollment into Wells Fargo's DOL Registered Apprentice Program is required
  • SAFE registration at the time of employment is required, with Wells Fargo initiating the process post-employment start
  • Current or previous military experience is required
  • 2+ years of finance or budgetary experience or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
  • Compliance with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and related regulations
  • Successful background investigation results
  • Ability to meet Loan Originator requirements under Regulation Z including financial responsibility, character, and fitness evaluations
  • Adherence to Wells Fargo's policies, procedures, and employee expectations

Job Qualifications

  • Military experience in any branch of service
  • 2+ years of leadership experience
  • Military experience in a customer facing role
  • Relevant military experience including personnel benefits management, processing military personnel orders, wartime readiness operations, human resources or military recruiting
  • Leadership experience including coaching, training, developing and building a high performing team
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with customers and internal partners
  • Extensive experience in asking questions and identifying complex financial needs to provide recommendations on products and services
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with high level of initiative and accountability
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels
  • Ability to interact with integrity and professionalism with customers and team members
  • Ability to manage time, competing priorities, exercise independent judgment, and use critical thinking skills
  • Ability to navigate multiple computer systems and utilize search tools to find information
  • Knowledge and understanding of compliance controls, risk management, and loss prevention
  • Relevant military experience including working with military protocol, enlisted evaluations, officer and leadership reporting

Job Duties

  • Participate in less complex initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvements within scope of responsibilities for Branch Banking functional area
  • Review and analyze basic business, operational, or technical assignments or challenges that require research, evaluation, and selection of alternatives, and exercise independent judgement to guide medium risk deliverables
  • Present recommendations for resolving more complex situations and exercise independent judgement while developing expertise within Branch Banking functional area, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with Branch Banking colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders, including internal as well as external customers
  • Perform a variety of structured duties, including on-the-job training, coursework and mentorship under supervision of hiring manager, program manager and a mentor
  • Comply with S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act requirements including background checks and regulatory standards
  • Assist with transactions as needed providing role model customer service
