The Branch Banking Management Military Apprentice (SAFE) role is an exciting full-time opportunity within Wells Fargo's Consumer Banking and Lending division, specifically under the National Branch Network. This apprenticeship is designed for individuals with military experience who are looking to transition into a leadership role in banking. The apprentice will be responsible for managing and developing a high-performing, diverse team of direct reports while instilling a culture of engagement, accountability, and excellence. The role requires the ability to lead a customer engagement process, coaching team members to deliver exceptional banking experiences that drive business growth and operational compliance. Key responsibilities include managing branch resources efficiently, upholding policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements, and addressing audit and escalation concerns promptly. Apprentices will be directly involved in customer transactions, serving as role models who demonstrate superior service and foster relationship-building.

The position also involves participation in a U.S. Department of Labor accredited Apprenticeship program, which combines on-the-job training, coursework, and mentorship. Under the guidance of program managers and mentors, apprentices will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to advance to the role of Associate Branch Manager. Given the SAFE designation, the role includes responsibilities related to mortgage loan originations and is subject to compliance with the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act and related regulations, including ongoing background checks and registration requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Enrollment into Wells Fargo's DOL Registered Apprentice Program is required
  • Apprentices are considered full-time employees
  • Must uphold Wells Fargo's policies, procedures and employee expectations
  • SAFE registration at time of employment is required
  • Wells Fargo initiates SAFE registration immediately after employment start date
  • Must meet Consumer Financial Protection Bureau qualification requirements including financial responsibility and criminal background standards
  • Ongoing regulatory compliance including additional screening if necessary
  • Current or previous military experience is required

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of finance or budgetary experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Military experience in any branch of service
  • 2+ years of leadership experience
  • Military experience in a customer facing role
  • Relevant military experience including working in personnel benefits management, processing military personnel orders or transitions, wartime readiness operations, human resources or military recruiting
  • Leadership experience including coaching, training, developing and building a high performing team
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with customers and internal partners
  • Extensive experience in identifying complex financial needs and providing recommendations on products and services
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels
  • Ability to interact with integrity and professionalism with customer and team members
  • Ability to manage time, competing priorities, exercise independent judgment, and use critical thinking skills
  • Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, applications, and utilize search tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of compliance controls, risk management and loss prevention
  • Relevant military experience including working with military protocol, enlisted evaluations, officer leadership reporting

Job Duties

  • Participate in less complex initiatives and identify opportunities for process improvements within scope of responsibilities for Branch Banking functional area
  • Review and analyze basic business, operational, or technical assignments or challenges that require research, evaluation, and selection of alternatives, and exercise independent judgement to guide medium risk deliverables
  • Present recommendations for resolving more complex situations and exercise independent judgement while developing expertise within Branch Banking functional area, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with Branch Banking colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders, including internal as well as external customers
  • Perform a variety of structured duties including on-the-job training, coursework and mentorship under supervision of hiring manager, program manager and mentor
  • Serve as a role model in delivering an exceptional customer experience focused on building relationships
  • Comply with SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act and all related regulations including background investigation and Loan Originator requirements under Regulation Z
