The current available role is that of a Driver, located at 100 Utah Ave South, San Francisco, California. This full-time position offers a starting pay of $23.00 per hour and involves the essential responsibility of safely operating a vehicle to pick up, transport, and deliver donated goods for Goodwill. Drivers play a critical part in preserving the quality and integrity of donations, providing excellent customer service, and upholding safety regulations at all times. The role includes working early mornings and weekends as needed, with the potential for overtime to ensure the timely completion of assigned tasks.

In this position, the driver is responsible for the careful handling and transportation of donations and merchandise, safeguarding items to prevent damage during shipment, assisting with unloading goods, and maintaining high-quality performance standards. The driver also provides direction to truck helpers when applicable and performs daily vehicle maintenance checks to ensure operational safety. A strong adherence to workplace safety and Goodwill’s core values is expected, along with the ability to communicate effectively using issued radios or phones. The position demands physical capability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and engage in tasks requiring standing, bending, and moving materials.

Job Requirements

  • Possession of valid Class C CA driver license with a clean record
  • minimum 2 years commercial driving experience
  • has a California DMV record that is no more than 30 days old
  • must have a current MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that has no citation convictions other than parking within past 3 years
  • has a Department of Transportation medical card
  • must be able to read maps and communicate using Goodwill issued radio or phone equipment
  • must pass pre-employment DOT drug test as a condition of employment
  • must have excellent customer service skills and proven ability to interact effectively with diverse customer base
  • available to work weekends and early mornings
  • respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than ones own, able to work effectively with all
  • must be able to lift minimum 25 lbs

Job Duties

  • Safely operates a vehicle to collect, transport and/or deliver donations, processed merchandise and other materials, as directed
  • safeguards donated goods to prevent damage during shipment
  • assists with unloading of merchandise, minimizing damage to donated materials
  • acts courteously, handles customer concerns, and resolves and/or escalates when necessary
  • follows all established policies, procedures and local, county, state and federal laws
  • performs daily vehicle maintenance checks
  • ensures daily work requirements are met, maintaining quality and quantity performance
  • may be required to work overtime to complete assigned tasks
  • responsible for following and ensuring all safety rules are complied with and appropriate safety equipment is used
  • immediately takes action and/or reports any unsafe or potential hazards
  • unloads vehicles and moves items as required
  • provides basic direction to truck helper, when applicable
  • maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance
  • models Goodwill core values - trust, collaboration, engagement, ownership, and innovation
  • performs other related duties, as assigned
