Selected candidates will undergo extensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, where they receive rigorous instruction in immigration laws, law enforcement operations, physical techniques, firearms training, and Spanish language proficiency, all necessary to perform effectively in diverse border environments.

The role requires agents to perform a wide variety of duties that include detecting and questioning individuals suspected of law violations, conducting surveillance from covert locations, interpreting physical evidence such as tracks, and patrolling international boundaries using various government vehicles and equipment. Agents may be deployed to mission-critical locations across the Southwest and Northern Border sectors where operational needs dictate deployment, and relocation may be necessary. There are also prioritized duty locations that offer additional recruitment incentives of up to $20,000, and retention incentives up to $40,000 available over the first four years to support recruitment and retention in challenging regions.
