Job Description
Leidos is a global industry and technology leader dedicated to providing innovative solutions to government and commercial customers. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Leidos employs approximately 47,000 professionals worldwide and reported annual revenues of around $16.7 billion for the fiscal year ending January 3, 2025. The company's core mission revolves around smarter, more efficient digital and mission innovations across various sectors including defense, healthcare, civil, and intelligence services. Leidos emphasizes a culture of integrity, innovation, accountability, and collaboration while delivering complex projects that impact national security, public health, and critical infrastructure.
The Defense Sector at Leidos currently offers an immediate opportunity for a Bomber Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join their innovative and highly diverse team. Located primarily in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, near Eglin Air Force Base, this role supports mission planning software development and integrates Agile and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies to enhance system engineering solutions. Candidates near Hanscom, Dyess, or Tinker Air Force Bases are also encouraged to apply.
As a Bomber Subject Matter Expert, you will be embedded within a team of systems engineers, software developers, government program managers, and security test engineers. Your expertise in bomber mission planning—specifically involving B-1, B-2, and/or B-52 aircraft—will provide critical leadership in guiding engineering and testing efforts. The position involves serving as a systems engineer who proposes solutions to complex integration challenges and collaborates across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and Solution Trains to define shared technical and architectural visions for evolving systems.
Responsibilities include developing technical requirements documentation, managing backlogs, prioritizing product features, and ensuring alignment with customer needs and solution intents. You will be tasked with generating mission threads, use cases, and maintaining traceability of requirements alongside managing software development metrics and recommending improvements. Working closely with stakeholders, you will represent the government customer in product management forums with authority over program backlogs, driving the program vision and roadmap.
The ideal candidate must be a U.S. citizen with at least an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. Educational qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with over 8 years of relevant experience or a master's degree with over 6 years, although equivalent experience can be considered. Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and a deep understanding of bomber mission planning at various operational levels are essential. Familiarity with Scrum at Scale, SAFe Agile, Jira, Confluence, and other product development tools are highly preferred.
Leidos values energetic, organized professionals who thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to contribute to mission success. This role offers a competitive salary range from $107,900 to $195,050 annually, aligning with experience, skills, and organizational factors. Benefits include comprehensive health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement plans designed to support the well-being and career growth of Leidos employees.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to be part of a team that disrupts the status quo, drives innovation, and moves faster than others to deliver critical defense solutions. Join Leidos and be at the forefront of mission-critical developments that protect national security and advance aerospace systems integration and software capabilities.
