Job Description

The Boathouse, located at lake level in The Edgewater's historic Langdon Building in downtown Madison, offers a unique coastal dining experience directly on the shores of Lake Mendota. This distinctive restaurant combines Wisconsin favorites with coastal-inspired dishes, including popular offerings like Mahi fish tacos, Stella's bun chicken BLT, and Clock Shadow cheese curds. Not only does it serve the local Madison community, but it also caters to guests of The Edgewater, a beautiful 4-star hotel, making it a favored destination for both locals and visitors alike. The Boathouse is the only restaurant in downtown Madison that provides direct lake access, allowing customers to arrive by boat and dock at the restaurant's pier, enhancing the lakeside dining ambiance.

The Edgewater, known for its high-quality customer service and hospitality standards, manages The Boathouse and prides itself on creating an environment where excellent service and memorable guest experiences are paramount. The restaurant is soon opening for its new season on May 1st, and it seeks motivated individuals to join the team in delivering exceptional dining and beverage service. This opportunity allows employees to work in a lively, supportive atmosphere equipped with top industry products and facilities. Flexible training schedules before the opening date accommodate individual availabilities, ensuring team members are well-prepared. The Boathouse values a team-focused approach and encourages collaboration to sustain its reputation for outstanding service.

Specifically, the bartender role at The Boathouse is vital for maintaining the restaurant's high service standards. Bartenders are responsible for preparing drinks for both individual customers and the restaurant's dining room and patio staff. Maintaining bar inventory, ensuring cleanliness, and delivering prompt and accurate drink orders are key components of this position. The restaurant’s dynamic environment requires bartenders to manage multiple tables while customizing orders to meet guest preferences, all while fostering a positive, teamwork-driven attitude. This position demands a genuine desire to create memorable experiences for customers, with an emphasis on excellent customer service and an entrepreneurial spirit. Physical requirements include the ability to carry trays, deliver drinks, and manage various tasks that keep the service flowing smoothly.

The Boathouse offers competitive employment conditions with flexibility in scheduling, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, making it ideal for those seeking part-time or seasonal work. Employees benefit from discounts on on-site dining, spa services, retail shops, and affiliated hotel stays, as well as parking and transit benefits. This role is perfect for experienced bartenders looking for a unique workplace experience within a 4-star hotel setting, offering opportunities to advance their hospitality career while enjoying the scenic lakeside location. The Edgewater and The Boathouse’s commitment to quality, teamwork, and guest satisfaction makes this an excellent choice for individuals passionate about hospitality and service excellence.
