The Manager II (MGRII) position at HMSHost is designed to assist branch management in executing complex operational tasks within Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs), Casual Dining establishments, or similar restaurant settings. This role is pivotal in maintaining high operational standards by ensuring that restaurants are clean, properly staffed, and well-prepared for business. The Manager II operates according to established company policies and procedures, making informed decisions while overseeing daily activities within the assigned restaurant or set of points-of-sale. The position requires a hands-on approach to managing staff, monitoring compliance with health and safety protocols, and ensuring superior customer service.

In this role, the Manager II works closely with General Managers and Assistant General Managers to supervise associates, manage scheduling, and enforce compliance with adult beverage policies. The position involves completing opening, daily, and closing checklists, ensuring all operational tasks are completed efficiently. Responsibilities include managing inventory and ordering goods, handling cash transactions securely by following HMSHost's cash handling policies, and maintaining a visually appealing and well-stocked restaurant environment. The Manager II also plays a role in recruitment and staffing decisions, contributing to interviews, recommendations for hiring, promotions, or terminations. This position often requires a flexible and rotating schedule to effectively oversee different shifts, including openings, busy periods, and closings.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work shifts during various operating days and hours each week
  • Ability to work during opening, busy day parts, and closing shifts to monitor restaurant associates’ work activities
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local sanitary, safety, and health standards
  • Knowledge of procedures and protocols to comply with HACCP standards
  • Ability to perform management decisions using prescribed policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate cash register and maintain cash security
  • Must comply with all Health and Safety policies
  • Availability to work varied and rotating schedule
  • Must have reliable communication skills
  • Adherence to the Fair Labor Standards Act as a non-exempt position.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years food and beverage experience
  • Minimum of 4 years cash handling experience
  • Minimum of 4 years customer service experience
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory or lead experience in a Casual Dine restaurant or production kitchen
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and policy documents
  • Comfortable conversing with customers.

Job Duties

  • Completes opening, daily and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies/procedures
  • assists the GM/AGM in managing by supervising day-to-day activities of associates within a defined individual or group of restaurants or points-of-sale
  • ensures compliance with all company adult beverage policies, and ensures all restaurant staff understand and follow AB procedures
  • participates in the interview process, provides input in hiring, recommends termination, advancement, promotion or any other status change to the GM for associates within the unit
  • assigns work tasks and activities, participates in preparing schedules, and ensures that all shifts are covered
  • actively ensures all associates take all mandated rest breaks and meal periods
  • ensures display areas are appropriately clean, stocked, and visually appealing
  • ensures all equipment is in good working order
  • operates cash register and voids transactions as needed while following all HMSHost cash handling policies and procedures, and maintains proper security of cash at all times
  • monitors compliance with wellness and safety procedures and guidelines, builds awareness about wellness and safety, and reports any safety concerns to the GM
  • understands and performs all Health and Safety activities as specified in the Manager’s Guide to Associate Health and Safety
  • places orders for individual units, receives goods, processes invoices
  • ensures that the company has most current contact information for all associates working in the restaurant.
