Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of company orientation and food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment with detailed and precise tasks
  • ability to work effectively with customers and stay attentive to their needs
  • physical ability to perform department-specific tasks including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 55 lbs or more depending on department)
  • willingness to comply with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • good communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Provides superior customer service

  • prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
  • slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • assists in technical areas as needed (e.g., basic set-up and clean-up processes)
  • uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • operates and maintains equipment properly
  • complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • complies with department/store operating procedures
  • records production and shrink to aid in production planning (Bakery)
  • assists in technical areas such as baking, frying, and decorating (Bakery)
  • culls bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates (Bakery)
  • takes care of service counter customers (Deli)
  • uses ordering system applications (Deli)
  • uses Fresh Production Planner (Deli)
  • performs inventory management processes as required (Deli)
  • ensures catering orders are prepared and ready in time for customer pickup (Deli)
  • performs all sanitation and maintenance tasks for Deli slicers (Deli)
