Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading North American retailer specializing in arts and crafts supplies, home décor, and custom framing products. With over 1,300 stores throughout the United States and Canada, Michaels holds the reputation as a premier destination for creative enthusiasts and hobbyists of all ages. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company has been dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration since its founding in 1973. Michaels not only offers a wide variety of crafting materials and seasonal décor but is also a community hub where customers can attend workshops, special events, and craft classes designed to inspire creativity. The company employs a dedicated team committed to delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining a welcoming environment, and upholding strict standards of store presentation and safety.

The role based at the Michaels store in Bolingbrook, IL primarily involves event coordination with a special focus on planning, coordinating, and facilitating in-store events including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes. This position requires the ability to create a fun, engaging, and stress-free environment for guests of all ages—from as young as four years old to seniors. The Event Coordinator is responsible for orchestrating multiple events simultaneously, ensuring client satisfaction, and managing logistical and administrative aspects including communication with clients and team members, completing necessary paperwork, and adapting event plans according to client needs.

Apart from event coordination, the role encompasses delivering excellent customer experiences by providing shopping assistance, engaging customers in the benefits of loyalty programs, and supporting omni-channel sales processes like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The position also involves operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking and recovery, maintaining store cleanliness, and adhering to safety and shrink prevention protocols. Candidates must be prepared to work in a dynamic retail environment that includes constant interaction with customers and team members, participation in daily store maintenance, and cross-training in custom framing sales and production.

This full-time position offers a competitive hourly base pay between $15.00 and $17.70, with eligibility for overtime compensation in compliance with local regulations. Michaels supports its team members with a comprehensive benefits package that may include a 401(k) with matching, medical, dental, and vision insurance, telemedicine services, and various employee assistance programs. The company fosters an inclusive work environment and provides reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities to ensure equal opportunity for all qualified applicants.
