The Role: The Event Coordinator position at the Michaels store in PHX-Gilbert/Germann, AZ is a dynamic and engaging opportunity for someone passionate about planning and executing memorable events within a retail setting. This role primarily involves managing and facilitating various events including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring that each event is seamless, fun, and satisfying for all participants.
An Event Coordinator at Michaels is responsible for coordinating multiple celebrations simultaneously, creating a creative and inviting atmosphere for guests ranging in age from young children to seniors. The individual will demonstrate craft projects, perform activities such as face painting, and handle additional event components like goody bags and balloons according to company standards. This position requires excellent communication to liaise across clients and internal teams, as well as strong organizational skills to manage administrative tasks including customer inquiries, event documentation, and timely adjustments based on client feedback.
Beyond event management, the role is customer-focused, helping store visitors locate products, providing shopping assistance, and ensuring an efficient checkout process. The Event Coordinator also supports operational tasks such as stock unloading, merchandise stocking, planogram executions, and store recovery to uphold the company’s brand promises and safety guidelines.
This role requires someone energetic and enthusiastic, with experience working closely with children and managing children’s events. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain a positive and respectful demeanor even in challenging situations. Job Requirements
- Ability to remain standing for long periods
- Ability to move throughout the store
- Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching
- Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using ladders or similar equipment

Job Duties
- Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes or events
- Engage with clients of all ages by creating an environment of fun and creativity
- Demonstrate and instruct party participants in the completion of craft projects and perform face painting and other activities
- Facilitate and implement party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons to company standards
- Communicate events with clients and store team members
- Complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork
- Adjust plans and events based on client feedback and needs
- Create backup or emergency plans to be executed as needed
- Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
- Uphold company cleanliness and safety standards including setup and breakdown before and after events
- Help customers shop and locate products and provide solutions
- Provide fast and friendly checkout experience
- Engage customers on benefits of rewards program and private label credit cards and complete enrollments
- Educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
- Assist with omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
- Participate in truck unload, stocking and planogram processes
- Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
- Perform store in stock optimization and AD set duties
- Support shrink and safety programs
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and company programs to ensure compliance
- Interact respectfully and positively with others including team members and customers
- Cross train in custom framing selling and production
- Participate in daily store cleanliness activities including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance
- Perform other duties as assigned
