Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier North American arts and crafts retail store with over 1,300 locations across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has a long-standing reputation as the destination for creativity and celebration. The company operates both brick-and-mortar stores and an online platform, offering a broad assortment of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and specialty merchandise through its subsidiary, Artistree. Michaels prioritizes fostering creativity by catering to customers of all ages, from children to seniors, enabling them to explore their artistic abilities and celebrate special moments through crafting.
At Michaels, the culture is centered around supporting team members and delivering excellent customer experiences. The company is committed to inclusivity and equal employment opportunity, ensuring a welcoming environment for all individuals. They provide comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts to support both full-time and part-time employees. Michaels also focuses on accommodating individuals with disabilities and providing reasonable accommodations to foster a workplace where everyone can thrive.
The Event Coordinator role at Michaels is a dynamic and engaging position essential to bringing customers a memorable and stress-free experience during in-store events. This job involves planning, coordinating, and executing multiple creative events concurrently, including children’s birthday parties, crafting classes, face painting, and other interactive activities that embody the fun and artistic spirit of Michaels. The coordinator engages with a broad range of customers—from young children to seniors—ensuring each event runs smoothly and meets or exceeds customer satisfaction.
Beyond event planning, the role includes providing friendly and knowledgeable customer service, assisting customers while shopping, helping them navigate the store and locate products, and efficiently managing transactions at the register. The coordinator is also responsible for operational tasks, such as unloading deliveries, stocking merchandise, organizing displays, and maintaining store standards in cleanliness and presentation. Prioritizing health and safety standards, the coordinator also supports loss prevention initiatives and works to uphold company policies.
This position demands strong communication and organizational skills, creativity, and an energetic personality who thrives in an interactive, fast-paced retail environment. Experience with children’s events and retail or customer service is preferred. The Event Coordinator must be physically capable of spending significant time standing, moving throughout the store, lifting boxes, and working with store equipment safely. Optimal candidates possess excellent relationship-building abilities, are adept at problem-solving, and demonstrate enthusiasm for crafting and customer engagement.
Working hours may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the varied schedule of retail and event activities. Michaels offers a supportive environment where team members can grow, contribute their unique talents, and help fuel the joy of creativity and celebration for customers and colleagues alike. For candidates passionate about arts and crafts and delivering exceptional customer experiences, this role presents a rewarding opportunity to be part of a leading creative retail brand.
