The cook position at Binion's Steakhouse is an essential role within the kitchen team, contributing directly to the preparation and timely delivery of food orders. This Cook II role requires a motivated professional who is skilled in multiple areas of food preparation and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for cooking menu items accurately and efficiently, maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness.
As a Cook II, you will be expected to manage various cooking tasks including the preparation of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, and other menu staples. You will be skilled in fry cook duties, broiling, and Garde Manger duties, ensuring that each dish meets the restaurant's strict standards of preparation and presentation. Adherence to proper cooking techniques, times, and temperatures is critical to maintaining both food safety and customer satisfaction.
The role demands someone who can work effectively within a team setting, collaborating with co-workers to maintain a smooth and efficient kitchen operation. Working days and shifts will vary, and flexibility is required to meet the needs of the restaurant. The candidate must demonstrate excellent coordination and dexterity to handle kitchen tools such as knives, spatulas, and food tongs safely and efficiently.
Additionally, the position involves physical demands including lifting heavy items up to 100 pounds and moving carts that can weigh as much as 300 pounds. The candidate must be able to work in varying temperature conditions within the kitchen, work the fry line for extended periods, and maintain a clean and sanitary work area aligned with local health department regulations. Possessing a local health department sanitation certificate is a mandatory requirement.

Job Requirements
- must be able to work any day of the week and any shift
- must be able to work inside a kitchen and on a fry line during most of shift
- must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
- must be able to push and pull carts weighing up to 300 pounds
- must possess coordination and dexterity to use kitchen utensils, such as, knives, spatulas, food tongs, etc
- must be able to bend, stoop, reach, crouch, kneel, push, and pull when rotating stock and cleaning work area
- must be able to operate the following kitchen equipment: stoves, grills, fryers, broilers, and other utensils in preparing the food orders
- must be able to respond to visual and aural cues
- must present a well-groomed appearance
- must be able to maneuver around all areas of the kitchen
- must be able to tolerate areas with extreme hot and cold temperatures
Job Qualifications
- minimum two (2) years prior experience as a cook
- previous working knowledge of point of sales system preferred
- must be able to provide own tools
- must be able to get along with co-workers and work as a team
- local health department sanitation certificate
- must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
Job Duties
- prepares and produces menu items to standards in a quick and efficient manner
- ability to prepare items such as but not limited to salads, appetizers, sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, etc
- prepares, cooks, and seasons all food
- skilled in fry cook, broiler, and Garde Manger
- controls food production in all work areas including proper cooking methods, proper cooking times and temperature
- adheres to kitchen maintenance and sanitation programs
- maintains assigned station and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition
