Job Description

Roadrunner Food Bank (RRFB) is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger and food insecurity across communities. Known for its strong community involvement and comprehensive food assistance programs, RRFB operates as a compassionate and mission-driven organization committed to helping neighbors in need. With a family-friendly work environment, great job benefits, and a supportive culture, RRFB attracts individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in their communities. The organization offers excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits, alongside a 403b retirement plan, where most employees pay less than $60 per paycheck for medical coverage. Employees enjoy an amazing time-off package that includes 13 paid holidays annually, 15 paid time off days, and 2 personal days each year. Working at RRFB means leaving work every day knowing that you have contributed to your community's well-being and supported people who are facing difficult times.

The Storytelling & Events Specialist role at Roadrunner Food Bank is an essential position within the Development Department's Marketing and Events Team. This non-exempt position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and offers compensation at $24 per hour. The role combines ethics-driven storytelling with robust event planning and community engagement responsibilities, all aimed at enhancing the visibility and support for RRFB's programs. The specialist will focus on amplifying the voices and lived experiences of neighbors, volunteers, partners, staff, and supporters, creating compelling narratives that highlight the organization’s impact. This position requires a sensitivity to ethical standards in story collecting, ensuring respect and dignity while developing content used in fundraising, communication campaigns, and outreach efforts.

Additionally, the specialist will coordinate and execute fundraising and friend-raising events such as Souper Bowl, Mission in Motion, and Hunger Action Month activities. This involves everything from initial planning and scheduling to onsite event management, establishing and maintaining community partnerships, and fostering collaboration within the team to maximize engagement and outreach effectiveness. The position supports broader communications goals through writing, multimedia asset management, translation to Spanish, public speaking, and providing general logistical aid. The role requires a mix of office-based and fieldwork, with some travel throughout the state and occasional night and weekend commitments. The Storytelling & Events Specialist position offers individuals a chance to apply their communication and event management skills in a context that makes a genuine difference, helping RRFB expand its mission to reduce hunger and foster community support.
