Job Description
St. Gabriel, Windsor Mill / St. Charles Borromeo, Pikesville, Pastorate is a vibrant religious community serving the local Catholic population in the Baltimore area. Rooted in strong traditions and dedicated to spiritual growth, the parishate offers a welcoming environment to parishioners and visitors alike. Both St. Gabriel and St. Charles Borromeo are committed to fostering a sense of community, providing various religious services and support programs to meet the spiritual and social needs of their members. As part of the wider Catholic Church, these parishes operate with deep respect for religious teachings, sacraments, and community involvement, making them vital centers of faith and fellowship in their respective neighborhoods.
We are currently seeking a Bilingual Receptionist to join the parish office team temporarily during a maternity leave period until mid-September. This critical role supports the parish by providing excellent receptionist services and clerical assistance, thereby ensuring smooth everyday operations of the parish office. The successful candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish, with strong skills in speaking and writing in both languages, which is essential to effectively communicate with the diverse community that the parishes serve. This position offers an hourly pay range of $17.00 to $19.00 and, although temporary, promises excellent experience within a religious organizational environment.
The Bilingual Receptionist will be responsible for welcoming visitors and directing them appropriately, answering telephone calls and handling messages with professionalism and warmth. Managing parish census data, sacramental records, and offering software systems is key to maintaining accurate parish information. The receptionist will also handle incoming and outgoing mail, including bulk mailings and monitoring postage supplies. Other duties include selling Mass cards, recording Mass intentions, and maintaining related records. The role further involves basic secretarial tasks, preparing welcome packets for new parishioners, and coordinating communication related to healthcare ministry visits, anointing, and Communion requests.
This position requires a strong ability to project a courteous and empathetic image, both in person and over the phone. Maintaining confidentiality and exhibiting professional demeanor at all times are essential. Familiarity with the Catholic Church, including knowledge of sacraments, is highly valued to offer meaningful assistance to parishioners and other constituents. The Bilingual Receptionist must also have proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications and experience with office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and postage meters. Candidates are expected to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills alongside a genuine commitment to serving the church community.
Although this role does not include benefits eligibility, it presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the supportive environment of two established parishes while honing administrative skills in a faith-based setting. Candidates looking for a temporary, community-focused position will find this role both rewarding and impactful, supporting the daily life and ministry of the parish community during the maternity leave of the current receptionist. This posting stands as an equal opportunity employment offering, emphasizing inclusivity and respect for all applicants.
