Job Description

Oak Street Health is a leading healthcare provider dedicated to transforming the way primary care is delivered, focusing on value-based care models that prioritize preventative health and chronic disease management. As a part of CVS Health, Oak Street Health benefits from a robust infrastructure and a shared commitment to building a more connected, convenient, and compassionate health experience for patients. Known for innovative approaches and a collaborative culture, Oak Street Health offers professionals an opportunity to have meaningful impact by improving the health and wellness of the communities they serve.

The Medical Scribe, also known as a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), plays a crucial role at Oak Street Health by supporting primary care providers with clinical documentation. This position allows providers to focus on direct patient care while ensuring thorough, accurate, and timely medical documentation is maintained. Scribes accompany providers through the patient care journey by participating in daily huddles, observing and documenting patient visits in real time, and assisting with follow-up actions. Beyond traditional scribing, CISs develop expertise in value-based care documentation, including coding with ICD-10 and CPT systems, and help identify and close care gaps for chronic conditions.

This full-time role offers a competitive pay range of $17.00 to $31.30 per hour, reflecting variations in experience and geography. It is designed with pre-med track individuals and those pursuing careers in health informatics, public health, healthcare administration, or medical coding in mind, providing extensive on-the-job training in clinical workflows and documentation best practices. Candidates are expected to commit at least one to two years, with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a supportive, patient-centered clinical environment.

In this position, Medical Scribes utilize advanced communication and technical skills to ensure clinical records are complete and accurate to support provider efficiency and improve patient outcomes. The role includes documenting histories, assessments, plans, and physical exams, selecting appropriate coding for billing and clinical purposes, and taking part in administrative tasks like placing orders and handling referrals. The position emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and learning agility within Oak Street Health’s culture that values diversity, inclusiveness, and professional growth.

Overall, the Medical Scribe role at Oak Street Health not only provides individuals with practical exposure to clinical care processes but also positions them at the forefront of value-based healthcare innovation. It serves as a vital bridge between providers and administrative complexities, enabling a care experience that is streamlined, precise, and aligned with broader public health goals. With comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and retirement options, Oak Street Health supports the well-being and advancement of their colleagues. This role is an excellent stepping stone for those looking to advance in healthcare fields while contributing to community health and institutional excellence.
