Ivy Tech is currently seeking a part-time Beverage Specialist & Hospitality Operations professional to join their Indianapolis campus team. This position reports to the Department/Program Chair and offers a competitive hourly wage of $17.25. In this role, you will be an essential part of the hospitality administration's lab resources, courses restaurant, bakery café, and catering events. The beverage specialist will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective operations in handling alcoholic beverages in compliance with Ivy Tech’s program guidelines, state regulations, and hospitality best practices. This position supports student success by demonstrating excellent customer service and maintaining a positive, inclusive environment conducive to learning.

The role demands proficiency in various hospitality functions including handling beverage inventory, setup and teardown of catering and restaurant events, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and providing superior service and cashier duties at the café, restaurant, and bar areas. The Beverage Specialist will also direct and collaborate with students and employees during hospitality events, ensuring smooth execution while adhering to legal and safety standards. The position requires someone who is adaptable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused, with a desire to deliver a supportive learning environment for students while engaging in multiple service areas within hospitality.

This opportunity offers part-time employment with variable hours based on class schedules and hospitality event demands, allowing for flexibility and hands-on experience within a well-established educational institution. The candidate must be 21 years or older with a current Alcohol Server Permit or the ability to obtain one within the first 30 days of employment. Additional certifications such as a current ATC certificate and experience with ServSafe protocols are also necessary to succeed in this role.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 or older

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving, and desire to support student success
  • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported
  • Follow proper laws, guidelines, and procedures for handling alcohol
  • Utilize proper ServSafe practices in receiving, labeling, and storing food products and supplies
  • Monitor lab equipment and storage areas for cleanliness, sanitation, and functionality
  • Assist with front-of-house setup or teardown for restaurant service or catered events, the café, and Receiving
  • Perform front of house service and cashier duties in the café, Courses Restaurant, and the bar area
  • Determine beverage preparation and execution within an event utilizing employees or students
  • Direct employees and students in the execution of an event in the front or back of house
  • Maintain accurate inventory and costing of alcohol in-house
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in Beer Cooler, Wine Cooler, Spirits Room, behind the bar, and wine storage
  • Converse professionally and promptly with internal and external customers
  • Perform in multiple hospitality areas as needed
  • Wear required uniform and adhere to safety and health codes at all times
