Job Description
The Fair Grounds Race Course is a historic and iconic entertainment venue located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Established in 1852, it is America's second oldest horse racing track and has been a beloved staple of New Orleans culture and entertainment for more than a century and a half. The Fair Grounds is renowned for hosting thoroughbred and exotic animal races throughout the year and operates as a premier destination for racing enthusiasts. Alongside live racing events, the venue also offers comprehensive gambling amenities including slot machines, video poker, and simulcasting to provide year-round excitement and entertainment to visitors. With 13 off-track betting parlors across southeast Louisiana, the Fair Grounds has established a significant presence in the region's gaming and racing industries, appealing to a diverse audience.
The role available at the Fair Grounds is that of a waitress, a vital position in delivering excellent customer service to guests in a lively and fast-paced environment. As a waitress at the Fair Grounds, you will be responsible for taking orders from customers and serving a variety of beverages including wine, coffee, soda drinks, bottled water, and beer, ensuring patrons have a pleasant and enjoyable experience. This role requires not only efficiency and accuracy when inputting orders for bartenders but also strong interpersonal skills to greet and interact with customers warmly and professionally. You will also be in charge of performing typical waitress duties such as cleaning tables, removing dishes and glasses, ringing up sales using the micros system, and verifying that customers are of legal drinking age according to Louisiana regulations.
In addition to serving beverages, you will be expected to maintain well-stocked service areas as instructed and consistently check with customers to guarantee their satisfaction. Because this position is set within an active gaming environment, attention to detail and the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously are crucial. The Fair Grounds encourages a self-starting attitude with minimal supervision and flexibility in working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of the venue's operational schedule.
Working at the Fair Grounds provides an opportunity to be part of a historical institution while gaining valuable experience in hospitality and customer service sectors within the gaming and entertainment industry. The organization values inclusion and provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. This role involves physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and the use of hand-eye coordination. Applicants must also be able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission as part of the hiring requirements.
Overall, this waitress position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to work in one of the most renowned horse racing and entertainment venues in the United States. Candidates interested in a dynamic work environment where they can interact with a diverse customer base and contribute to the smooth operation of high-volume service will find this role fulfilling and engaging.
