The Barback role at The Westin Chicago River North is a full-time, non-management position with a competitive pay rate of $26.50 per hour, including tip eligibility. This role is pivotal in supporting the bar operations by ensuring the bar area is clean, well-stocked, and organized at all times. Responsibilities include organizing provisions and equipment for opening and closing shifts, maintaining cleanliness of all bar areas, and ensuring smooth operation to assist bartenders and servers efficiently. This position demands flexibility, with preferred availability on weekends and holidays, as well as knowledge of spirits, wines, and beers being a significant advantage. The Barback will also adhere strictly to company safety policies, maintain professionalism in appearance and conduct, and provide exceptional support to team members. This position is critical in helping maintain the quality assurance standards and delivering outstanding guest service.

This role requires physical stamina, such as standing, walking for extended periods, and lifting objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. The employee will engage in various manual tasks like cleaning, stocking ice and glassware, contacting supervisors for shift sign-offs, and supporting the team to meet common goals. Job Duties

  • Comply with opening and closing duties such as organizing provisions and necessary equipment
  • clean all equipment and areas
  • lock doors at the end of shifts
  • check out with the captain or supervisor before leaving
  • organize, stock and maintain work areas
  • stock ice, glassware and paper supplies
  • remove dirty items from bar surface and tables
  • keep work areas, bar, bar furniture, and tables clean and in good condition according to established guidelines
  • comply with all company safety policies and procedures
  • report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents or injuries
  • complete safety training and certifications
  • ensure uniform and personal appearance are neat and professional
  • maintain confidentiality of company information and protect company property
  • support coworkers and treat them with dignity and respect
  • assist the team in achieving common goals
  • meet quality assurance expectations and standards
  • move, lift, transport, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than 50 pounds without assistance
  • stand, sit or walk for prolonged periods or full shift
  • read and visually check information in various formats
  • handle objects requiring fine motor skills and good hand-eye coordination
  • reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, crawling and stooping
  • navigate sloped, uneven or slippery surfaces and stairways
  • ascend and descend service stairs and/or ramps
