The role in question is a Medical Assistant position based at an assigned medical clinic with the overarching purpose of enhancing patient care and supporting healthcare providers. This position is integral to managing patient flow and improving the overall health outcomes of the community through direct patient interaction and clinic operational support. Responsibilities include overseeing clinic referrals to behavioral health services, scheduling behavioral health appointments, obtaining external health records, conducting behavioral health screenings, and performing phlebotomy and laboratory tasks as directed by psychiatric providers. The Medical Assistant also plays a key role in maintaining communication with internal and external resources, updating behavioral health registries, supporting providers in meeting quality metrics, and ensuring a safe clinical environment by adhering to required safety protocols. This position requires compassionate engagement with patients, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Job Requirements
- Completion of medical assistant training
- Certification from AAMA, NHA, or NCCT within 120 days of hire
- Medical Assistant – Certified credential from Washington State Department of Health for Washington locations
- Previous community health clinic experience preferred
- Experience with EHR systems preferred
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Compassion for patients
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- BLS (CPR/AED) certification
- Valid drivers’ license and insurance
- Commitment to supporting a safe and respectful environment
Job Qualifications
- Completion of medical assistant training through an apprenticeship program registered and approved by the WA Department of Labor and Industries or college program accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
- Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants, National Healthcareer Association or National Center for Competency Testing required within 120 days of hire
- Medical Assistant – Certified credential issued by Washington State Department of Health for Washington locations
- Previous experience in a community health clinic preferred
- Experience with EHR preferred
- Excellent customer service, oral and written communications skills
- Compassion for patients
- Ability to work well in team environment
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced work environment
- Basic computer user skills
- Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability
- BLS (CPR/AED) certification
- Valid drivers’ license and insurance
Job Duties
- Oversees clinic referrals to behavioral health and triage for appropriate behavioral health placement, communicating with internal and external resources
- Schedules initial and follow-up appointments for behavioral health providers
- Obtains external health records when appropriate
- Greets patients and escorts to behavioral health room
- informs patient of time delays throughout visit
- Conducts appropriate behavioral health screenings and gathers information to maintain efficient patient flow
- Monitors and updates behavioral health registry communicating with internal and external resources
- Performs phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed by psychiatric provider
- Supports provider in meeting quality measures
- Assists provider with process, exams, and patient education
- Observes and follows required safety protocols, including handling and disposal of sharps, use of personal protective equipment, exposure of blood borne pathogens, and general safety of employees and patients
- Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes instruments
- Performs other duties assigned, including supporting the CHAS Health Mission and Core Values
