The role of Beer, Wine and Liquor Team Leader at Giant Eagle is a critical leadership position responsible for managing the entire team within the department and ensuring smooth and efficient operations. This position requires a strong leader who can guide Team Members in delivering exceptional service, including assisting guests in selecting the perfect wine or ale to complement their meals. The Team Leader will be accountable for the overall performance of the department, representing Giant Eagle in a professional manner, and upholding the company’s standards of mutual respect, inclusion, diversity, and dignity. A vital part of this role is the ongoing coaching and development of Team Members through regular feedback to promote individual growth and success.

The Beer, Wine and Liquor Team Leader will oversee various duties such as interviewing, selecting, and training Team Members, directing their work, assessing performance, and handling issues or disciplinary actions as needed. This role also involves planning and assigning work schedules, ensuring safety and security within the department, managing budgets and inventories, and maintaining compliance with company policies and state laws. Additionally, the Team Leader will play an active role in merchandising, inventory control, and the creation of appealing displays to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

Compensation for this position ranges from $20.25 to $23.63 per hour, reflecting the anticipated base pay and varying depending on experience, skills, education, and location. Eligible employees may receive a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance, paid personal and sick time, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, bonus potential, paid bereavement leave, vacation time, and paid holidays. This role does not require travel but involves physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and requires candidates to be at least 21 years of age. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • retail work experience or Store Leader recommendation
  • retail leadership or supervisory experience desired
  • successful performance as a Peer Trainer or similar role desired
  • successful performance as an in-store champion role desired
  • demonstrated product knowledge relevant to department
  • satisfactory performance and discipline record
  • at least 21 years of age
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • varies by department for certification or licensing
  • no travel required

Job Duties

  • Interview, select and train Team Members
  • direct the work of Team Members
  • appraise Team Members' productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in status
  • handle Team Member issues including, but not limited to complaints
  • discipline Team Members
  • plan the work
  • distribute or assign the work among Team Members
  • provide for the safety and security of Team Members or the store
  • manage the budget for your department or location
  • manage inventory for your department or location
  • monitor or implement compliance measures
  • maintain cleanliness of equipment, floor and general sales area and follow standards to meet sanitation requirements
  • build displays by taking merchandise by flats from backroom to sales floor and lifting products from flats to displays
  • take an active role in building the store's beer/wine assortment, throughout the year and at resets
  • uncover any potential under-age or intoxicated individual and deny the sale of alcohol
  • report daily liquor sales as required
  • update and maintain daily record-keeping and identification of files
  • monitor and ensure store compliance with company and state laws, policies and procedures
  • P&L accountability
  • follow acceptable procedures to ensure BWL meets out-of-stock percentage goals, as well as shrink and inventory level goals
  • analyze item movement and plan displays accordingly to maximize total business
