Job Description

Northlight Theatre is a renowned professional theatre company recognized for its commitment to presenting high-quality productions and fostering a vibrant arts community. Located in Illinois, Northlight Theatre has established itself as a pillar of cultural enrichment, attracting diverse audiences and talented artists in the performing arts sector. The theatre’s mission focuses not only on delivering outstanding live performances but also on providing excellent patron experiences that enhance every visit. This dynamic establishment is well-known for its collaborative environment and dedication to the arts, drawing both local residents and visitors to appreciate world-class theatrical productions in a welcoming setting.

The current opportunity at Northlight Theatre is for skilled and enthusiastic bartenders who will play an essential role in enhancing patrons' overall theatre experience. Reporting directly to the Patron Services Manager or Assistant Manager, Northlight Theatre's bartenders will be primarily responsible for preparing and serving concessions and merchandise during events, including alcoholic beverages. This position also allows for some crossover duties, with bartenders supporting box office operations by processing orders and handling patron inquiries about the theatre as necessary. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused attitude, ensuring that every guest receives prompt, friendly, and professional service.

The bartending hours vary according to the theatre's production schedule, requiring applicants to be available for at least 10 hours per week during the run of productions. This flexibility is ideal for those who seek part-time or seasonal employment in a lively arts environment. Compensation for the role is $16 per hour plus tips, and bartenders are also eligible for earned paid time-off, supporting a balanced work-life arrangement. Northlight Theatre takes pride in fostering a supportive work atmosphere, including covering certification fees and training hours for necessary qualifications such as the Illinois Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET) and food handler training. This investment reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining high service standards and compliant practices in beverage service.

Prospective employees must be at least 21 years of age and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, although reasonable accommodations are available. Prior bartending experience is required, ensuring that team members are proficient in managing beverage service efficiently while maintaining the theatre’s high standards of hospitality. Working as a bartender at Northlight Theatre offers a unique chance to engage with the local arts community, interact with diverse patrons, and contribute to the seamless execution of memorable theatrical events. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy vibrant social environments, value teamwork, and want to be part of an organization that champions the performing arts.
