The Graduate by Hilton Iowa City is currently seeking a dynamic, service-oriented Bartender to join their team. This role is pivotal in delivering exceptional guest experiences by effectively managing bar operations and providing top-notch beverage service in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment. The Bartender will be responsible for setting up the bar with the appropriate levels of liquor, juices, add-ons, and other consumables to ensure seamless service flow. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the bar area, glassware, and utensils is essential to uphold SHG’s high standards. The Bartender will also be tasked with verifying the legal drinking age of guests and preparing drink orders that meet both bar standards and guest preferences with precision and care. They will present bar bills, handle payments efficiently, and engage guests warmly to ensure satisfaction and promote a welcoming atmosphere. Safety is a priority in this role; therefore, monitoring guests to prevent overconsumption and addressing such situations tactfully is part of the responsibilities. When the shift concludes, the Bartender locks up and secures all equipment, handles cash deposits, and ensures the security of all bar operations.

This position demands an individual who is detail-oriented, a team player, and possesses thorough knowledge of alcoholic beverage service practices and standards. Effective verbal communication skills are needed to interact clearly and professionally with guests and team members. A minimum of a high school education and at least three years of bartending experience are required, with preferred certifications in bartending and alcohol awareness adding value to the candidate’s profile.

Job Duties

  • Ensures bar is set up with appropriate levels of liquor, juices, crushes, additives, soda, etc.
  • Ensures that the bar, glasses and cutlery is clean and sanitized
  • Ensures guests are of legal age to consume alcohol
  • Prepares drink orders according to bar standards and guest preferences
  • Presents bar bill and takes payment
  • Ensures guests are engaged and satisfied
  • Monitors guests for overconsumption of alcohol and takes steps as necessary
  • Locks up and store all beverage, food and other equipment items, deposits cash drops and secures bank
  • Perform various other duties as assigned
