The Bartender role at Proper Grit is a vital position that places you at the center of this distinctive hospitality experience. This position is not just about mixing drinks, but about delivering thoughtful cocktail craftsmanship, guiding guests through a curated selection of whiskies, and creating a genuine and memorable hospitality environment. As a Bartender, you will bring knowledge, personality, and precision to your work, ensuring that each beverage served meets the elevated standards and unique character of Proper Grit. Your duties will include setting the stage for service by preparing the bar, engaging guests throughout their visits, maintaining cleanliness and inventory, and consistently upholding responsible alcohol service practices. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages
  • Bartending training and certification
  • TIPS or equivalent responsible service certification required
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience bartending in fine-dining or upscale, high-volume hospitality environments
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed under pressure
  • Professional appearance and reliable attendance
  • Ability to accurately count cash and operate cash register
  • Must be highly organized and able to pay attention to sound and sight details in crowded and noisy situations
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to lift 20-40 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing continuously
  • Must be able to use tact and understanding when dealing with customer service challenges

Job Qualifications

  • Bartending training and certification, TIPS certified
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience bartending in fine-dining or upscale, high-volume hospitality environments
  • Strong technical cocktail skills and working knowledge of wine and spirits
  • Sommelier or beverage certifications a plus
  • Excellent communication, upsell, and guest service skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed under pressure
  • Professional appearance, reliable attendance, and a team-first attitude

  • Provided knowledgeable beverage recommendations and pairings, confidently describing spirits, vintages, and tasting notes
  • Maintained speed and quality during high-volume service by managing multiple drink orders, tickets, and timing to support front-of-house operations
  • Ensured accurate POS transactions, cash handling, and execution of opening and closing bar procedures
  • Maintained bar cleanliness, inventory, and par levels while completing daily setup and end-of-shift restocking
  • Enforced responsible alcohol service and consistently verified guest identification in compliance with policies
  • Assisted with menu development, seasonal cocktail features, and staff training initiatives as requested
