Job Description
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) is a prestigious and historic organization dedicated to enriching lives through the power of music. As one of the leading orchestras in the United States, SLSO is committed to fostering a vibrant and connected community while presenting exceptional musical experiences. The orchestra operates in a dynamic and welcoming environment, including the renowned Powell Hall and the Jack C. Taylor Music Center, serving a diverse audience composed of patrons, donors, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders at all levels. Being part of the SLSO means contributing to an organization that values community engagement, artistic excellence, and memorable guest experiences.
The Bartender position at SLSO is a vital member of the guest food and beverage operation, directly reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager. This role is essential in creating a welcoming, accommodating, and memorable experience for all guests attending concerts and select pre- and post-concert events at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center. Bartenders play a highly visible part in ensuring that every guest receives exemplary hospitality and bar service, contributing to the overall mission of the orchestra. The role requires outstanding hospitality skills, expertise in safely serving alcoholic beverages and food, and the ability to interact effectively and courteously with a wide variety of people.
Working closely with the Director of Guest Experience and the Guest Services Manager, bartenders are expected to provide exceptional customer service, ensuring that guests feel comfortable and respected. The position is not only about mixing and serving drinks but also about being an ambassador of the SLSO brand within the St. Louis community. Bartenders will attend regular training sessions to stay updated on food and beverage service standards and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with all applicable law and policies, including verifying the legal drinking age.
The duties encompass preparing and serving beverages and food, maintaining a clean and organized bar area, handling financial transactions accurately, and assisting in various operational tasks such as stock management, set up and tear down of service stations, and participating in pre-concert meetings. Bartenders must respond effectively to guest needs and concerns, including managing situations with intoxicated guests safely and professionally. Moreover, they may be called upon to fulfill emergency response responsibilities as outlined in SLSO procedures, demanding a calm and composed demeanor in all situations.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about hospitality, committed to excellent service, and eager to contribute positively to the guest experience in a cultural and artistic setting. The bartender position with SLSO offers a unique opportunity to be part of a respected institution that values service excellence, community connection, and the transformative power of music.
