The role of Beverage Server at Commonwealth Lodging Management hotels is a dynamic and hands-on position pivotal to delivering outstanding guest service within the food and beverage outlets. This position is typically a full-time hospitality role where the successful candidate will be the face of the dining and bar experience, responsible for providing prompt, courteous service to guests. A Beverage Server will greet guests, take and prepare drink orders according to outlet recipes, and utilize suggestive selling techniques to enhance guest satisfaction and boost revenue. The server must maintain an extensive knowledge of drink menus, liquor brands, beers, wines including characteristics and preparation methods to ensure every order meets quality standards.
In addition to serving drinks, the position demands strict adherence to state liquor laws including the responsible service of alcohol, particularly ensuring no service to minors or intoxicated individuals. Maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization within work areas is a must, along with proper handling of equipment and substances aligned with OSHA requirements. The role may include assisting barbacks and cocktail servers to ensure smooth and efficient service flow, as well as participating in inventory checks and accurate documentation of consumption and cash handling.
Physical stamina is essential, as employees must be able to stand and move continuously for up to eight hours and handle lifting or transporting items up to 50 pounds. The work environment varies from indoor to outdoor settings and includes variable temperature and noise levels typical of hotel food and beverage operations. Uniform standards are enforced and the role requires a professional demeanor with positive guest interaction and confidentiality.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) or work equivalent
- Certification in an alcohol awareness program
- Computer skills required
- Good understanding of the English language and communication skills both written and verbal
- A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in food and beverage preferred
- Previous cash handling experience preferred
- Ability to exert physical effort in lifting and transporting at least 50 pounds
- Ability to push or pull carts and other equipment up to 150 pounds
- Ability to endure various physical movements throughout the work areas
- Ability to work under variable temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings
- Must be able to stand and exert well paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length
- Employees must wear flat, closed toe nonslip shoes
Job Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) or work equivalent
- Certification in an alcohol awareness program
- Computer skills required
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and experience with food & beverage point of sale system preferred
- Good understanding of the English language and communication skills both written and verbal
- A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in food and beverage preferred
- Previous cash handling experience preferred
- Previous training in liquor, wine and food service
- Prefer previous guest customer relations training
Job Duties
- Be in proper uniform, with a nametag
- Always maintain positive guest relations and maintain guest confidentiality
- Work to resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction
- Greet guests and take their orders (food and beverage), utilizing suggestive up selling techniques
- Maintain knowledge of all hotel features/services, hours of operation, special packages and promotions, daily house count and expected arrivals and departures and scheduled daily group activities
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment
- Use equipment only as intended
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas
- Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving
- Prepare all drink orders for guests according to outlet recipes
- Assist Barbacks and Cocktail Servers in their job functions to ensure smooth and efficient service to guests
- Prepare consumption report promptly according to specified procedures
- Legibly complete bottle transfer slips and distribute accurately
- Legibly document designated items on the spill sheet
- Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel requirements
- Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, liquor brands, beers and nonalcoholic selections available in the assigned outlet
- Maintain knowledge of the characteristics and description of every wine, champagne by the glass and major wines on the wine list
- Maintain complete knowledge of designated glassware, ingredients, preparation method and garnishes for each drink
- Maintain complete knowledge of table, seat, station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, menus, price range and dress code of assigned outlet
- Assist with weekly, monthly, quarterly inventories
- Obtain method of payment from guests (credit or cash) and maintain and secure a cash bank to perform job functions
- Process all payments according to established hotel requirements, and Commonwealth Lodging Management cash handling S.O.P.’s
- Assists in handling emergencies to protect our guests and associates and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency
- Complete opening, closing and side duties as assigned
- Responsible for knowing and abiding by all department, Commonwealth Lodging Management and hotel policies and procedures. As well as the brand standards, policies and procedures
