Job Description
The Pueblo of Sandia is a tribal government organization dedicated to serving its community through various initiatives that promote cultural preservation, economic development, and social services. This position is a Bartender role within the Pueblo of Sandia’s food and beverage service team. The role requires providing fast, friendly, and professional beverage and food services across multiple bars and restaurants. The bartender is responsible for crafting and serving a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, preparing cocktails, beers, wines, and specialty drinks in precise portions using jiggers and wine carafes. Additionally, the position entails maintaining the bar area, managing inventory levels, handling transactions accurately with point-of-sale (POS) systems, and ensuring strict compliance with all alcohol service regulations, including verifying identification and responsible beverage service practices.
The bartender will work collaboratively with a dynamic team, contributing to a hospitable and professional atmosphere that aligns with the Pueblo of Sandia’s values. This includes setting up and closing down the bar area, maintaining cleanliness according to health and safety guidelines, managing equipment such as ice machines and draft systems, and assisting with training new team members. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Able to stand and walk for long periods
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Basic communication and math skills
- Available to work weekends and holidays
- Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation
- Will require pre-employment and random drug screening
- Must obtain Food Handlers certification upon hire
- Must obtain and maintain a New Mexico Alcohol Server’s License prior to hire date
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Basic communication and math skills
- Knowledge of basic cocktails
- Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems
- 6 months to one (1) year of bartending, serving, or barback experience preferred
- Excellent beverage knowledge including ingredients, proper mixing, and pouring technique
- Knowledge of liquor, beer, and wine
- Ability to follow written and oral directions
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment
- Strong customer service focus
- Ability to work harmoniously within diverse teams
Job Duties
- Provides exceptional service to guests by taking orders, making recommendations, and ensuring a positive experience
- Crafts and serves a wide range of beverages including cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks
- Serves food items as required and prepares drinks with proper pouring portions and ingredients according to recipe
- Sets up and breaks down the bar area, including stocking products, changing kegs, and cleaning as necessary
- Checks equipment such as ice machines, refrigerators, and draft systems and reports any problems
- Operates POS system accurately and maintains financial controls during transactions
- Adheres to all applicable alcohol service laws, including age verification and refusing service to intoxicated guests
- Assists in training new team members and maintains a clean, stocked bar workspace
