Job Description
Departure is one of America’s hottest Asian restaurants, situated atop the landmark Meier & Frank Building. Known for its ambitious and innovative menu, Departure offers a masterful remix of authentic coastal cuisines that captivate diners. The restaurant’s culinary focus spans from street food-styled starters to meal-sized classics, rice and noodle specialties, and market-fresh sushi. Emphasizing the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, Departure sources the freshest ingredients to deliver the vibrant and fiery flavors of the Far East, making it a treasured dining destination in Portland, Oregon. The restaurant is part of Sage Restaurant Concept, a company dedicated to creating “independent” restaurants and lounges adjacent to hotels in prime locations. Sage Restaurant Group is committed to connecting with local communities by providing highly designed, innovative, and locally focused food and beverage experiences that reflect the essence of the regions they serve.
Portland is a city known for its flourishing food scene, surrounded by farms, forests, and the ocean, with year-round farmers’ markets and artisans producing some of the most delicious goods in America. Working at Departure means being part of this dynamic culinary culture and contributing to a vibrant, community-oriented establishment.
The role of Bartender at Departure is seasonal, running from April through September, and it plays a crucial part in maintaining the restaurant's high standards of service and excellence. The Bartender is responsible for setting up the bar, mixing and serving drinks according to established guidelines, providing exemplary customer service, and ensuring all bar operations comply with company standards and legal regulations. This position demands a professional who can work efficiently and cordially while managing multiple tasks in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. The Bartender must be knowledgeable about beverage preparation, safety controls, state liquor laws, and proper cash handling procedures. Additionally, the role requires maintaining inventory levels, completing supply lists, performing cleaning and sidework duties, and actively engaging with guests to create memorable experiences.
This position requires physical endurance, including the ability to lift and carry heavy items, stand continuously for long periods, and maneuver in tight spaces. Candidates must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to effectively communicate in English. The ability to handle stressful situations with tact and professionalism is essential. Departure offers a competitive work environment with perks that include a complimentary cafeteria, 401k matching, hotel discounts, and proximity to multiple public transportation options, making it a desirable place to work in Portland’s vibrant restaurant scene. If you are passionate about hospitality and eager to contribute to a celebrated restaurant group, this Bartender role at Departure provides an exciting opportunity to grow professionally while delivering outstanding guest experiences.
