Job Description
Blue Moon TapHouse is a vibrant hospitality establishment located in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, renowned for its unique blend of craftsmanship and culinary excellence. Situated along the picturesque Elizabeth River waterfront, the TapHouse spans an impressive 22,550 square feet and serves as a cultural hub that connects Waterside Drive to the heart of the city. It prides itself on being more than just a dining destination — it is a community gathering space that celebrates creativity through its open kitchen, live music events, and displays of authentic art from local artists. With its focus on marrying the art of cooking with the art of beer, Blue Moon TapHouse offers guests an immersive and engaging dining and drinking experience that is both fun and professional.
The bartender role at Blue Moon TapHouse is designed for energetic, outgoing individuals who excel in high-volume environments and possess a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. This position requires not only the skill to mix and serve drinks according to established recipes but also the ability to create a welcoming atmosphere that enhances the overall guest experience. Bartenders at Blue Moon TapHouse are expected to communicate clearly and effectively with both colleagues and patrons while maintaining a friendly, professional demeanor.
This full-time position involves a variety of responsibilities, including taking beverage orders, serving wine, beer, and cocktails, managing side work, and ensuring compliance with legal age requirements for alcohol consumption. Bartenders are integral in promoting current beverage specials and guiding guests through the selection of drinks, helping to increase both sales and customer satisfaction. Attention to detail when recording sales and tips is crucial to maintaining company standards and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have at least 1-2 years of bartending experience in fast-paced, high-volume bars or nightclubs, with a solid knowledge of liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, and non-alcoholic beverages, along with appropriate glassware and garnishment techniques. While formal bartending training is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates must meet state legal age requirements and possess strong communication skills in English; additional language skills are considered an asset. Certification in alcohol awareness or a valid food service or health/food handler permit as required by state or local government agencies is also necessary.
The role demands physical readiness, as bartenders will be required to handle or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, work efficiently across multiple areas including the bar and kitchen, and maintain safe and effective handling of food, utensils, and barware. Flexibility to work during nights, weekends, and holidays is essential to meet operational needs.
Working at Blue Moon TapHouse offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team within an exciting venue that values creativity, quality, and community involvement. If you are passionate about bartending, enjoy engaging with guests, and thrive in a fast-paced, artistic environment, this role offers a fantastic platform to grow your skills and contribute to a unique local landmark that celebrates the craft of both cooking and beer.
