Job Description

Neighbor's Bar is the vibrant full-service lobby bar situated within NCG Cinemas in Lansing, Michigan. Unlike traditional concession stands, Neighbor's Bar offers an exciting selection of handcrafted cocktails, batched cocktails, frozen drinks, mocktails, dirty sodas, beer, and wine. This unique bar concept provides guests with a high-energy atmosphere where excellent customer service and a guest-first approach are at the forefront. It's a place where moviegoers can start their evening with expertly prepared drinks and a welcoming environment that enhances their overall cinema experience.

As part of NCG Cinemas, Neighbor's Bar operates within a popular entertainment venue known for offering quality movie experiences and state-of-the-art screening facilities. The establishment is focused on delivering not just films, but also a memorable social atmosphere through its innovative bar setup. Working at Neighbor's Bar means being part of a team that values enthusiasm, creativity in mixology, and a commitment to outstanding customer interaction. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, making it ideal for individuals who thrive in energetic settings and enjoy engaging with diverse guests.

The role of Bartender at Neighbor's Bar is a part-time position designed to cater to the varied shifts aligned with theater showtimes, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Compensation for this role includes Michigan minimum wage plus tips, offering an opportunity to earn a competitive income in conjunction with consistent guest tips. To qualify for this position, applicants must be at least 21 years old, ensuring responsible alcohol service as mandated by law.

Bartenders at Neighbor's Bar are expected to be outgoing, confident, and guest-focused, actively engaging with moviegoers as they enter the lobby and offering them a variety of drink options before they even reach the counter. This proactive approach is essential to creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Prior bartending or bar service experience is preferred but not mandatory, opening the door for enthusiastic individuals ready to learn and grow their skills.

This position demands the ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy show rushes and peak lobby times. Physical stamina is also necessary since the job involves standing for extended periods and working flexible hours to meet the cinema's operational needs. Additionally, reliability, punctuality, and teamwork are critical to succeeding in this collaborative environment.

Neighbor's Bar ensures all bartenders complete required certifications within their first two days of employment. These include Responsible Alcohol Service certification (Rserving) and Bar Operations certification (Diageo Bar Academy), both completed on company time and at no cost to the employee. Maintaining these certifications throughout employment is mandatory, as shifts cannot be performed without current certifications.

Working at Neighbor's Bar offers several benefits including a one-of-a-kind work environment inside a bustling cinema, opportunities for professional growth within a developing bar program, and supportive management with clear expectations from the outset. Employees also enjoy perks like free movies to experience NCG Cinemas firsthand and discounts on concessions, making this an exciting and rewarding job for bartenders who love both hospitality and film.
