Job Description

The Union League is a prestigious private social club known for its rich history, exclusive membership, and commitment to providing a refined guest experience. Established with a dedication to tradition, excellence, and community, the League offers members a unique environment that blends elegance with warmth. It hosts a variety of events that cater to its members while maintaining the highest standards in service, amenities, and hospitality. The club's facilities include multiple dining venues, event spaces, and recreational areas, all designed to create a memorable experience for guests and members alike. Within this distinguished establishment, a key role is that of the Bartender, who serves as a vital part of elevating the guest experience and supporting the operations of the club's A la Carte - Grays restaurant department.

The Bartender role is seasonal and part-time, offering an opportunity to work in an upscale, interactive environment where high-quality service and guest satisfaction are paramount. Reporting directly to the Dining Room Manager at Grays, the bartender will provide timely and attentive service to all bar patrons, ensuring that the atmosphere remains welcoming and organized. This role requires a strong knowledge of classic and specialty beverages, an ability to handle customer interactions with professionalism and warmth, and a commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the bar area. The bartender will also collaborate closely with runners, bussers, servers, and kitchen staff to create seamless dining experiences.

Particular emphasis is placed on being the 'face' of the Club, where the bartender acts as an ambassador for the Union League's values and service standards. Responsibilities include setting up the bar with acute attention to detail, managing daily inventories, and restocking supplies to ensure a smooth operation. Bartenders will take and serve food and beverage orders, make informed recommendations about seasonal and specialty cocktails or wines, and resolve any guest issues with a positive attitude. Understanding the club's numerous properties, hours of operation, and ongoing events is also part of providing excellent service.

Compensation for this position includes an hourly wage of $7.25, supplemented by a share of the service charge pool distributed based on hours worked. Because some of the busiest and most important days for the club fall on mandatory work dates, including holidays and special events such as New Year's Eve, Spring Ball, Easter Sunday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day celebrations, Thanksgiving Day, and Member Guest Weekend, the candidate must be flexible and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Overall, this role blends behind-the-scenes operational work with the thrill of engaging directly with guests in a prestigious setting, making it ideal for someone who enjoys social interaction, values tradition, and aspires to deliver exceptional hospitality.
