Job Description
The Carolina Skies Club at Shaw Air Force Base, located in South Carolina, operates as a pivotal Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) establishment for personnel associated with the Air Force and Space Force. As a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) entity, it is primarily focused on providing quality leisure and service facilities that support the morale and well-being of military members and their families. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the club offers various amenities including dining, entertainment, and social activities that help foster a strong community spirit within the base. Employees at the Carolina Skies Club play an essential role in ensuring that all patrons receive excellent service and enjoy a comfortable environment that supports their diverse recreational needs. The club represents a unique federal work environment, blending hospitality with a mission to bolster military readiness by enhancing the quality of life for service members and their families.
This particular role is centered on operating the limited-service bars within the Carolina Skies Club. As a bartender, the incumbent will be tasked with preparing and serving a select range of alcoholic beverages, including beer, soda, and wine. The position requires proficiency in mixing alcoholic drinks using proper premixes and garnishes, ensuring that each beverage meets quality standards. Bartenders are expected to maintain a clean and organized bar area, wash equipment and utensils, and manage stocking duties to ensure seamless operations. They also handle cash transactions by operating the cash register, issuing change, and maintaining cash accountability records as needed. Beyond these technical responsibilities, the position demands a high level of interpersonal skills, such as recognizing and managing intoxicated patrons and providing friendly, efficient customer service. This role requires compliance with established hospitality standards and federal regulations, including age restrictions for serving alcohol and completion of food handler’s training. Being a Non-appropriated Fund position, it offers a distinctive opportunity to work within a federal MWR environment while contributing significantly to the club’s service excellence. This employment is open to a diverse applicant pool including veterans, military spouses, and other eligible candidates, reflecting the inclusive hiring practices of the federal government. Candidates must also pass background investigations and meet other federal employment conditions, making this a responsible and fulfilling role ideal for individuals passionate about serving the military community and excelling in hospitality services.
