Job Description
New England College is a renowned educational institution located at 98 Bridge Street, Henniker, NH 03242. This college offers diverse academic programs and a vibrant campus environment, contributing to the development of students and staff alike. As a part of their commitment to delivering excellent student services and enhancing campus life, they have partnered with Chartwells Higher Ed, a division of Compass Group, to provide quality dining and hospitality services. Chartwells Higher Ed is known for its dedication to employee growth, competitive wages, and robust benefits packages, encouraging a supportive workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion.
Currently, New England College is hiring for part-time Bartender positions, with work hours scheduled primarily from Thursday through Saturday, although hours may vary and will be discussed in detail during the interview process. This role offers an attractive pay range of $16.00 to $18.00 per hour. The position requires prior bartending experience to ensure the service level meets both regulatory compliance and guests' expectations. Applicants are encouraged to apply online, with the college providing a conversational recruiting assistant to ease the application process via text messaging.
The Bartender role is essential to the campus hospitality experience. Responsibilities include preparing and serving a wide range of beverages in a friendly, courteous, and timely manner. The individual in this role must strictly adhere to all state, federal, and corporate liquor regulations, particularly those concerning serving alcoholic beverages responsibly and ensuring compliance with laws related to minors and intoxicated patrons. The bartender will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the bar area, which involves requisitioning and stocking all necessary inventory, including beer, wine, spirits, glassware, garnishes, and produce. Maintaining product quality by preparing fresh garnishes and juices and ensuring cleanliness and order in the work area are also vital.
The role demands excellent customer service skills—greeting guests warmly, efficiently processing orders, practicing portion control, verifying guest identification, and responsibly handling cash transactions. Bartenders at New England College must also demonstrate knowledge of liquor laws and be capable of detecting and responding appropriately to signs of guest inebriation. Security duties include locking up all beverage products and cash deposits at the end of shifts. Bartenders perform routine cleaning tasks and maintain an attractive bar display, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of the bar area. This position may also require bartenders to wash and sterilize stemware and perform additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
Working with Chartwells Higher Ed means opportunities for personal and professional growth through training and development programs. The college supports its employees by offering a range of benefits even for part-time workers, including health and wellness programs, voluntary insurance options, retirement planning, and unique perks such as an associate shopping program and identity theft protection. The company also fosters a drug-free workplace and complies with all legal and safety standards. Potential employees should note that during academic breaks when service demand is lower, work may be unavailable, which could involve unpaid periods considered temporary layoffs. However, depending on business needs, staff might be required to work at alternate locations or year-round.
New England College and Chartwells Higher Ed are committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair treatment for all applicants and associates without discrimination based on protected characteristics. This role provides an excellent opportunity for those interested in part-time hospitality work in an educational setting, offering competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and the chance to contribute to an engaging campus community. Interested candidates should apply promptly as applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until openings are filled, and even those not selected immediately may be considered for future opportunities.
