Job Description

The Tennessee Aquarium, acclaimed as the best Aquarium in America for overall guest satisfaction, is a premier visitor destination attracting over 750,000 guests annually. Located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this renowned institution offers a unique blend of natural exhibits showcasing aquatic life and engaging educational experiences. With a strong commitment to conservation and guest experience, the Aquarium serves as both an entertainment venue and a center for environmental education. The Tennessee Aquarium is also a sought-after location for private events, hosting various functions in a scenic and dynamic environment.

The role of Events Bartender at the Tennessee Aquarium is a part-time, hourly position with a pay rate of $16 per hour, primarily involving evening and weekend shifts. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the event experience by providing exceptional bartending services during private and public events held at the Aquarium. Responsible for delivering excellent customer service, the Events Bartender expertly crafts mixed drinks, serves beer and wine, and maintains a clean and organized work environment. The job requires the ability to navigate the Aquarium’s unique multi-floor layout and accommodate guests who are still touring the facility during event setup and breakdown.

Bartenders at the Tennessee Aquarium must comply strictly with alcohol awareness protocols to prevent intoxication and manage any incidents involving over-intoxicated guests effectively. They must be familiar with and adhere to bar policies, including tipping practices and event-specific instructions from managers. Teamwork is essential, as bartenders often work in groups to ensure smooth service flow, especially during busy events. The position also involves handling cash and card payments, accurately tallying drink orders, and maintaining responsibility over assigned cash tills in line with company standards.

The role demands excellent communication skills to engage with guests, staff, and management actively, ensuring total guest satisfaction within the event operations. Handling guest complaints professionally and reporting issues promptly to supervisors is also a key part of the job. Additionally, Events Bartenders assist with event setup and breakdown and work with external service providers to uphold Aquarium guidelines and quality standards, including sustainability and recycling efforts.

The Tennessee Aquarium values employees who are professional, responsible, and possess a positive attitude, with the ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure. Preferred candidates will have prior experience using Point-of-Sales systems, handling money, and hold a beer/wine card. Employment requires availability for at least one event per month, which could range to more frequent shifts depending on contracted event schedules. Overall, this position offers an engaging opportunity to be part of a respected institution, contributing directly to memorable guest experiences through dedicated service and teamwork at one of America's top aquariums.
