Job Description

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is recognized as a premier culinary destination in the Monterey area, celebrated for its distinctive dining experiences and high-quality food and beverage offerings. As part of the HHM Hotels collection, this establishment blends hospitality excellence with a unique, experiential environment that caters to a wide variety of guests. The venue features three distinct dining environments: a full-service dining room, a lively bar and lounge, and an al fresco dining patio. Each space is thoughtfully designed to create memorable dining and social experiences, whether guests are enjoying innovative dishes, fresh oysters at the oyster bar, or handcrafted cocktails prepared in the central live-fire kitchen, the heart of the restaurant’s culinary operations.

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette combines a vibrant atmosphere with an emphasis on guest satisfaction and hospitality. The property offers multifunctional meeting spaces and private dining rooms, making it a popular choice for both intimate gatherings and large group events. This dynamic setting invites hospitality professionals who are passionate about delivering excellent guest service in a fast-paced and engaging environment.

The Bartender role at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is an essential part of the guest experience, responsible for serving beverages and food with friendliness, courtesy, and attention to detail. The role requires a proactive approach to customer service and a flair for mixology, as bartenders help set the tone for guest interactions through their skill in preparing and presenting drinks, maintaining clean and organized work areas, and ensuring compliance with legal age requirements and safety standards. This position is full-time and offers a clear growth path within the hospitality industry, with opportunities to advance to roles such as Beverage Manager, Restaurant Supervisor, Restaurant Manager, and Food & Beverage Manager.

Bartenders at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette are integral to maintaining the restaurant’s reputation for excellence. Some of the key responsibilities include preparing and serving drink and food orders in a timely manner, slicing and garnishing fruits for drinks, verifying customer ID to ensure legal compliance, managing intoxicated guests in accordance with safety policies, and assisting with inventory and beverage requisitions. In addition to direct guest service, bartenders participate in side work and cleanliness tasks to uphold the high standards expected by the establishment and contribute to continuous improvement in guest satisfaction scores.

The company prioritizes sustainability and employs best practices through its EarthView program, requiring staff to engage in environmental stewardship as part of their daily work. Safety is also a top priority, with strict adherence to MSDS and OSHA guidelines. This is a physically active role that involves standing for extended periods, walking, lifting, and general physical exertion.

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette embraces a diverse and inclusive culture, aligned with HHM Hotels’ values of People Are Our Capability, Hearts That Serve, Only Excellence, Stay Nimble, and Own It. The company is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, fostering a workplace free from discrimination and supportive of all employees’ growth and success. This role is ideal for someone passionate about hospitality, eager to develop their bartending skills, and committed to delivering an outstanding guest experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.
