Job Description
Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) is a renowned non-profit art museum located in the Pacific Northwest, specifically on Bainbridge Island, Washington. The museum serves as a vibrant hub dedicated to contemporary art and craft from the Puget Sound region. BIMA's mission is to inspire curiosity, wonder, and understanding by connecting people with diverse and thought-provoking artistic works and cultural expressions. Surrounded by visually stunning galleries, an auditorium, a lively Bistro, a Store, and an open plaza, the museum hosts various events that span the entire artistic spectrum. These spaces not only showcase creativity but also foster community engagement and provide a platform for local artists to present their talents in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
The Bistro at BIMA is a vital part of this cultural experience, offering guests an inviting atmosphere to enjoy food and beverages while they immerse themselves in art. The Bistro Barista/Server position is a key role within this setting and requires an energetic individual who can deliver exceptional customer service while supporting the museum's vibrant atmosphere. As a part-time employee, the Bistro Server collaborates closely with the Bistro team in functions ranging from serving guests and operating espresso machines to bartending and assisting with food preparation. The role involves interacting directly with museum visitors, requiring a friendly, fun, upbeat, and creative attitude to enhance the overall museum experience.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment where art and hospitality intersect. It offers a unique opportunity to work in a space enriched with contemporary artwork and cultural events, all while contributing to BIMA's mission of inclusivity and community connection. Employees benefit from working in a setting that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. BIMA fosters a workplace culture that celebrates uniqueness and welcomes diverse perspectives, making this role not only a job but a part of a meaningful cultural effort.
Compensation for the Bistro Barista/Server ranges from $17.25 to $18.50 per hour, depending on experience. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting BIMA’s near year-round operation. Employees also share tips based on hours worked, enjoy a free meal per shift, receive paid sick leave, and have access to participation in a 403(b) retirement plan alongside an Employee Assistance Program. Those working in this role will have the chance to grow professionally within the BIMA Bistro team, which is preparing to expand and enhance its offerings further.
Joining BIMA means becoming part of a community dedicated not only to art but also to building an equitable and welcoming environment for all employees, guests, and artists. The Bistro Server acts as an ambassador for the museum, consistently providing high-quality service that reflects the museum’s values and commitments. Candidates should be passionate about the arts, motivated to deliver outstanding guest experiences, and eager to contribute to BIMA’s cultural and community mission in a meaningful way. This ongoing application ensures that BIMA continually attracts talented individuals who are aligned with its vision and who want to be part of an inspiring artistic institution where work is both rewarding and creatively fulfilling.
