Job Description

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) is a renowned non-profit art museum located in the heart of Bainbridge Island. This cultural institution is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating contemporary art and craft from the Puget Sound region, making it a vibrant hub for artists, art lovers, and the community alike. BIMA’s galleries, auditorium, Bistro, Store, and outdoor plaza host a myriad of events that cover an expansive artistic spectrum—from exhibitions and musical performances to workshops and cultural festivals. The museum’s mission focuses on inspiring curiosity, wonder, and understanding by connecting people with contemporary artistic expressions while fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity in all its forms. Staff and volunteers at BIMA are committed to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere where diverse voices and perspectives are heard, valued, and embraced.

The part-time Bistro Barista/Server role at BIMA offers an exciting opportunity to work amidst this dynamic cultural setting. As a Bistro Server, you will become an integral part of the Bistro team, which supports the museum's mission by creating a hospitable environment for visitors. The role involves serving and bartending duties, food preparation, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and positive vibe of the Bistro and its patio space. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for excellent customer service and a love for art and culture. The Bistro is a lively space buzzing with energy from museum patrons and special event attendees, making it important for Servers to possess a strong sense of professionalism combined with warmth and enthusiasm. You will receive ongoing support and training, including opportunities to assist with developing fun happy hour menus and participating in a variety of BIMA-produced events such as member parties, festivals, and cultural programs.

The employment type is part-time, with flexible schedules that include evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the museum’s calendar as it is open 363 days a year. Hourly wages range from $17.25 to $18.50 DOE, with additional benefits such as tips shared among staff based on hours worked, free meals per shift, paid sick leave, participation options in a 403(b) retirement plan, and access to an Employee Assistance Program. This role is ideal for those seeking to grow and develop their career within a non-profit arts organization and contribute meaningfully to the community’s cultural fabric while gaining valuable experience in hospitality and customer service within a unique arts setting.
