Job Description

This job opening is for the position of Barista/Baker within the Operations Department at a coffee and bakery establishment that values courteous, knowledgeable, and outstanding customer service. As a non-exempt position reporting to the Unit General Manager, this role offers a salary of $15.25 per hour. The establishment operates early in the morning, preparing freshly baked donuts and baked goods and serving expertly crafted coffee and beverages throughout the day to enhance the customer experience.

The Barista/Baker plays a critical role in the daily operations by combining technical barista skills with baking expertise. This dual role requires an individual who is passionate about coffee craftsmanship and skilled in preparing and decorating bakery products. The Barista side of the position involves executing precise coffee preparations, which include managing factors such as the grind of espresso, tamping pressure, espresso shot pulling speed, milk temperature, and appropriate cup selection. Attention to detail and dedication to quality ensure that every beverage served meets the store's highest standards.

On the Baker side, responsibilities include baking already prepared donuts, decorating them attractively prior to the opening hours, and ensuring bakery items maintain freshness and appeal. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where excellent customer interaction is a priority. They must be able to welcome and connect with each customer, discover their needs, suggest appropriate products to enhance their experience, and respond enthusiastically.

In addition to excellent customer service, the role requires adherence to strict health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain the highest levels of cleanliness within all product areas and operational stations. The Barista/Baker will follow store policies and procedures to ensure smooth operational flow and contribute to merchandising, stocking, rotating, and inventory management. They will also participate in routine cleaning tasks and follow cash handling procedures as part of their responsibilities.

Strong communication and professional presentation are integral to the role, as the Barista/Baker regularly interacts with customers and team members. The ability to work collaboratively within a team while supporting the store's goals to increase sales and improve profits is essential. Physical demands of the job include standing for long periods, using hands and fingers frequently, and lifting or moving items weighing up to 40 pounds. Essential sensory abilities such as close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, taste, and smell are important for performing this job effectively.
