The Barista role at Stumptown is vital to bringing the company’s core mission to life. Baristas serve as ambassadors of quality coffee, ensuring that every beverage meets the expectations set by their hardworking partners at source. Stumptown Baristas do not have supervisory responsibilities, focusing instead on honing their craft, engaging customers, and contributing positively to the overall cafe experience. This role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16.80 to $17.30 and a comprehensive benefits package that supports employees’ health, wellbeing, and work-life balance.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for entire shifts
  • perform repetitive motions to operate espresso machinery
  • ability to taste and perceive coffee aromas
  • effective communication skills to interact with customers frequently
  • capability to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • previous experience in coffee service preferred
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • health department certification as required by location

Job Duties

  • Prepare espresso beverages for customers, meeting Stumptown's quality standards
  • deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • proactively engage with customers to understand and meet their needs
  • develop a thorough understanding of coffees, teas, foods, merchandise and promotions to drive sales
  • maintain a clean and organized environment in all areas of the store
  • demonstrate willingness and openness to change and share ideas to improve the store
  • taste coffee, tea and specialty beverages regularly to maintain product familiarity and quality
  • accurately process transactions in the POS system and reconcile till
  • practice self-reflection and seek feedback on performance
  • follow sustainability practices to reduce environmental impact at the facility
  • perform other duties as assigned
