Job Description
Kitchen of Purpose is a unique social enterprise that combines a love for culinary excellence with a powerful mission to transform lives through food and vocational training. As a community-centered organization, Kitchen of Purpose focuses on providing specialized culinary and barista training programs designed to empower individuals facing barriers to employment. This innovative model not only trains but also supports its trainees by offering real-world work experience and mentoring opportunities, forging a path toward long-term career success. Recognized for its commitment to social justice, community development, and inclusive growth, Kitchen of Purpose operates a busy café that serves as a platform for graduates and trainees to hone their skills and tell their stories. By patronizing the café, customers actively contribute to uplifting marginalized communities and fostering workforce readiness in the hospitality industry.
The Barista Supervisor role at Kitchen of Purpose is a pivotal position within this dynamic environment. It is designed for individuals who are passionate about specialty coffee and social impact, combining practical barista skills with leadership and mentorship responsibilities. This position involves overseeing the daily operations of the café, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the organization’s inclusive values. The Barista Supervisor acts as a mission ambassador, engaging with customers to share the transformative stories of Kitchen of Purpose’s training programs, while also providing direct support and coaching to baristas and trainees. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow professionally in a setting that prioritizes both operational excellence and social change.
In this full-time role, the Barista Supervisor will be accountable for managing shift schedules, handling cash and inventory, and optimizing workflows during peak hours to deliver exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will bring 1-2 years of experience in a fast-paced specialty coffee or food service environment, with a strong desire to develop leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to a cause they believe in. Prior supervisory experience is advantageous but not mandatory. Equally critical are the personal qualities of reliability, effective communication, and a passion for community empowerment. The Barista Supervisor will have the chance to work closely with a diverse team, including program graduates and trainees, fostering an atmosphere of growth, learning, and mutual respect.
Kitchen of Purpose offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $24.14 to $29.07, reflecting the importance of the role in both coffee craftsmanship and social mission delivery. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan, paid time off, and employee discounts. The organization proudly welcomes applicants with a criminal record, underscoring its commitment to second chances and inclusive hiring practices. This in-person role not only demands technical expertise and leadership acumen but also a heartfelt dedication to uplifting others through the power of food and community.
