Now, Alfred Coffee is seeking a Full-Time Shift Lead at one of its cafe locations. This role is vital in maintaining the high standards Alfred has set in customer service and operations. Reporting directly to the Cafe Manager, the Shift Lead works daily to ensure smooth, efficient, and exceptional shift performance. With a wage starting at $18.62 per hour plus tips, estimated to be between $22.50 and $26.50 per hour in total compensation, this full-time, non-exempt position is designed for individuals with a passion for customer service, leadership, and coffee culture.

The Full-Time Shift Lead is responsible for upholding service standards by leading through example and fostering an environment of teamwork and excellence during their shifts. They manage customer interactions professionally, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints while adhering to Alfred's hospitality standards. Deep knowledge of the cafe’s product offerings is essential, as the Shift Lead also ensures that all staff are well-informed about the beverages, food, and services provided.

Beyond customer service, the role emphasizes team management and training. The Shift Lead supports the development of baristas by enhancing their coffee and tea knowledge and recognizing employee accomplishments to build motivation and a strong team culture. They assist with training new employees, delegate tasks effectively, and enforce disciplinary measures when necessary.

Operational responsibilities include managing inventory, ensuring accurate timekeeping and cash handling, operating the POS register, overseeing the preparation of food and beverages, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The Shift Lead also performs health and safety compliance checks, including daily refrigerator temperature monitoring and timely completion of sanitation protocols.

Physical demands for this role involve lifting up to 20 pounds, moving quickly throughout the cafe, standing for long periods in a fast-paced environment, and clear verbal communication. The job also requires flexibility with occasional scheduling of quarterly team meetings or trainings outside regular hours.

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a cafe or restaurant setting preferred but not required

  • full-time employees must maintain an average of 30 hours per week to maintain full time status

  • maintains a supportive and accessible work environment for employees and guests
  • demonstrates excellent and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • anticipates customer and cafe needs by observing the environment and customer cues
  • optimizes operational workflow through staff delegation including barista and register
  • supports inventory management and order placement
  • ensures proper staff timekeeping including clocking in and out and breaks
  • manages cash drawer and tip procedures for opening and closing shifts
  • operates the POS register system for transactions
  • oversees food and beverage preparation adherence to Alfred standards ensuring quality consistency and timeliness
  • maintains a clean organized and stocked cafe environment including setup and breakdown
  • conducts daily refrigerator temperature checks to comply with company and health standards
  • enforces proper safety and sanitation procedures including timely HACCP completion
  • assists with receiving and handling product deliveries
  • completes AM PM Daily Cafe Log and utilizes communication channels such as Slack and email
  • documents employee and customer injuries in the cafe using incident reports informing management
  • adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in company’s employee handbook
  • performs any other tasks assigned to meet company goals
