Job Description

Alfred Coffee is currently hiring for the role of Shift Lead at its café locations. This non-exempt position reports directly to the Café Manager and offers a competitive wage of $18.62 per hour plus tips, with an approximate total hourly compensation ranging from $22.00 to $26.00. The Shift Lead plays an essential role in maintaining Alfred’s high standards of service and operational excellence throughout their shift. They lead by example in upholding service standards and customer care, providing effective leadership during shifts to ensure smooth café operations. This role requires excellent customer service skills, with the Shift Lead serving as a role model for hospitality by addressing customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally.

In addition to leadership, the Shift Lead is responsible for team management and training. They foster a team-oriented environment by recognizing employee achievements and assisting with new employee training through feedback and reinforcement. Building a rapport with employees by understanding their motivations and needs is key to this role. The Shift Lead helps management assess staffing requirements and delegates duties effectively to ensure tasks are accomplished on time. They also enforce disciplinary measures when necessary.

The work environment is supportive and accessible, emphasizing excellent attendance and punctuality. Shift Leads anticipate both customer and café needs by observing cues and optimize workflow by delegating tasks effectively. Operational responsibilities include managing inventory, overseeing staff timekeeping, handling cash and tip procedures, operating POS systems, and ensuring food and beverage preparation meets Alfred’s quality standards. Maintaining a clean and organized café environment, performing daily temperature checks, and enforcing safety and sanitation procedures are also critical aspects of the role.

Safety and compliance are a priority, with duties including documenting injuries via incident reports and adherence to company policies and procedures. This position requires physical capability to lift up to 20 pounds, move efficiently within the café, and stand for extended periods. Full hand functionality is necessary for handling espresso machines and other equipment with precision. Clear communication skills in English are essential for interacting with customers and coworkers.

  • manages cash drawer and tip procedures for opening and closing shifts
  • operates the POS register system for transactions
  • oversees food and beverage preparation adherence to Alfred standards
  • maintains a clean, organized, and stocked cafe environment
  • conducts daily refrigerator temperature checks to comply with standards
  • enforces proper safety and sanitation procedures
  • assists with receiving and handling product deliveries
  • completes AM/PM Daily Cafe Log and utilizes communication channels
  • documents employee and customer injuries using incident reports
  • adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the company's employee handbook
  • performs any other tasks assigned to meet company goals
