Job Description
Barnes & Noble is a renowned bookselling company with a rich heritage of serving readers and communities across the United States. As a notable bookstore chain, it offers an inviting environment where literature lovers can come together, explore diverse book collections, and enjoy a curated selection of café offerings. Barnes & Noble’s unique combination of retail bookstore and café spaces creates a vibrant place not just for book buying but for social engagement and community interaction. With a network of stores nationwide, the company is dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere that encourages visitors to linger, read, and connect. The establishment emphasizes the importance of teamwork, quality, and community spirit in all facets of its operations, contributing to its enduring reputation as an iconic retail destination in the book industry.
In the role of a Barista at Barnes & Noble, you will be an essential team member at the heart of the café, a place that complements the bookstore experience. This position is ideal for those who are passionate about serving customers with cheerfulness and professionalism, making each visit to the café a memorable experience. As a Barista, you are not only responsible for preparing and serving a variety of beverages and café items but also for maintaining cleanliness, merchandising presentation, and smooth daily operations of the café. The role demands proficiency in handling registers, unpacking and stocking deliveries, and ensuring the tidy presentation of the bakery case and dining area.
Barnes & Noble baristas are expected to exhibit positive behaviors such as reliable attendance, flexibility, enthusiasm, team support, and a genuine enjoyment of the barista role. Training in operational competencies is provided, equipping you with skills in technology usage, merchandising, customer service, food and beverage preparation, and loss prevention techniques. The position involves physical activity including prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and moving around the store. This job offers opportunities for growth where you can progress to a Senior Barista role, taking on more responsibilities and advancing your career within a supportive environment.
Working at Barnes & Noble also means benefiting from a comprehensive range of benefits that vary based on hours worked. For part-time employees working less than 20 hours a week, benefits include employee discounts, an employee assistance program, and sick pay. Those working 20 to almost 30 hours a week receive additional benefits such as paid time off, maternity and parental leave, company-paid holidays, transit benefits, and 401(k) with company match. Employees working 30 hours or more are eligible for comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, health spending accounts, disability insurance, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement. The company supports diversity and equal employment opportunities, committing to an inclusive workplace for employees of all backgrounds.
