Job Description
Barnes & Noble is a renowned bookselling company that takes pride in creating a welcoming environment for readers and communities. Each Barnes & Noble bookstore offers more than just books; it is a vibrant gathering place where literature enthusiasts come together to explore, learn, and share their love for reading. Established as one of the leading retail booksellers in the United States, Barnes & Noble has successfully combined the joy of book buying with the cozy ambiance of its in-store Cafés, which provide patrons with a delightful selection of beverages and food items. The company places strong emphasis on excellent customer service, community engagement, and creating a pleasurable shopping experience for its visitors. Barnes & Noble bookstores are staffed by passionate individuals who contribute to the unique atmosphere that blends literary culture with comfort and social interaction.
The role of a Barista at Barnes & Noble is a vital one, situated at the heart of the Cafés within the bookstores. This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy engaging with customers and contributing to a friendly and vibrant environment. As a Barista, you will greet customers enthusiastically, assist them by answering questions, and help them select beverages and café items tailored to their preferences. Your role is not limited to serving drinks and food; you will help maintain the attractive presentation of the café, ensure cleanliness, and support the efficient operation of the café with tasks such as unpacking deliveries, stocking shelves, tidying the bake case, and keeping the dining area inviting. Proficiency with register operations and customer interactions is essential, as you will be expected to deliver professional and friendly service consistently.
Barnes & Noble values key behaviors including reliability, flexibility, positive attitude, teamwork, and a genuine enjoyment in being a Barista. You will be trained to master various operational skills such as using technology for transactions, merchandise management, food and beverage preparation, and maintaining high cleanliness standards. This position demands physical activity including standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and walking. Baristas may also support other bookstore locations as needed. With experience, Baristas are expected to deepen their knowledge of café products including beverages, bakery items, and savory options. They will promote and support sales objectives, make customization recommendations, and adhere strictly to safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines. Growth opportunities are available, allowing you to advance towards a Senior Barista role where increased responsibilities and new challenges await.
Benefits vary according to the hours worked, with more extensive packages including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans with company match, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement available to fuller-time associates. Barnes & Noble demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity and equal opportunity, ensuring an inclusive workplace for all employees. If you have a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences in a literary setting and enjoy the art of crafting beverages and serving delightful café items, this Barista role at Barnes & Noble offers a rewarding and dynamic career opportunity.
