North End Market is a vibrant new café and market concept located inside the Holiday Inn & Suites Virginia Beach - North Beach. This unique establishment offers guests and visitors a convenient and high-quality food and beverage experience within a popular hotel setting. The barista role also includes important tasks related to cashiering, food expediting, and dishwashing to ensure the seamless operation of the café. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages with a focus on consistency and quality. They will maintain in-depth knowledge of the menu items and be capable of making thoughtful recommendations to customers. Alongside beverage preparation, excellent communication and friendly customer engagement form the cornerstone of this position. Handling orders efficiently, operating the point-of-sale system, and managing multiple requests simultaneously are critical facets of the daily routine.

Additionally, the barista position demands collaboration with kitchen staff and the front-of-house team to coordinate smooth food service. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to follow health and safety regulations
  • Good physical stamina

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food service or coffee shop preferred but not required
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities

  • Basic math skills for handling transactions

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, teas and other beverages to company standards
  • Maintain knowledge of menu items and make recommendations to customers
  • Ensure consistency and quality in all drinks and food presentations
  • Enforce all health, safety, and sanitation regulations across all shifts
  • Restock coffee supplies, syrups, cups and other materials as needed
  • Greet customers warmly and take orders accurately
  • Operate the POS (point-of-sale) system, handle cash, credit and digital payments
  • Provide prompt and friendly service while managing multiple orders
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently, involving management when needed
  • Coordinate and organize food orders for timely service
  • Ensure accuracy and presentation of all outgoing food items
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen staff and front-of-house team
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the food pickup area
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment following sanitation guidelines
  • Keep dish area, kitchen, and service areas clean and organized
  • Take out trash and maintain cleanliness throughout the cafe
  • Assist with opening and closing cleaning duties
